DocWolph Every automaker has a complete package of fastening techniques for aluminum including gas welding, pressure welding, riveting, adhesives... GM has not been about the studied and careful action, but about deliberately hiding defects from the public while existing on taxpayer money. They wouldn't even exist today without looting of our wallets.
Martin EspinozaFirst is not always best (and as the Ford GM and Chrysler have been that is RARELY the case) and working in a different direction does not make one the "slow kid". When Gm rolls out their Aluminum truck, which will be built on experience from actually building more and more aluminum into their cars. Keep in mind GM invented the tech to wield Aluminum in oxygen. GM has not been about the huge bombastic move, but the studied and careful action.Ford gets the fanfare but GM, more than Ford, gets it right.I said more than I intended to say on the subject, particularly with a troll like you. I call you such for your deliberately obstinate tilt to just dis so you can have fun trying to piss people off.As I said, I am past done here. So, you can have the last word, but whatever.
DocWolph The fact is that Chevy is the slow kid, and they're mocking Ford for being first to market. When Chevy starts making Aluminum trucks, people will just go back to buying the Fords. GM can make an expensive car out of Aluminum but they can't make an ordinary vehicle. And you really do have to go to more exotic materials to save weight and also do all the other stuff vehicles have to do today.
Martin EspinozaMaybe. Maybe not.But the New F-150 was called the worst of the three America F/S Pickup, by Consumer Reports and JD Power. Worst ride, noisy, expensive to repair if damaged, and does not return the expected gains if F/econ.No I don't like either organization, but it is important to point out a LOT of people listen to what they say and read what they print and post. For a LOT of these people, if they say its not that good or not good, it tends to effect sales.Add to that the Sierra and Silverado outsold the F-150, and there is blood in the water.Since it is not necessary to actually make a vehicle out of Aluminum, Carbon Fiber, or some such, to make it significantly lighter, as if that alone it the one and only cure-all, it just leaves FORD wide open to being rebuffed. And while GM is developing Aluminum trucks for MY2018 or so, it is not hypocritical. Its just business and neither GM or RAM is in a hurry to stand up and not deliver.
Martin Espinoza Those ads will foment doubt in the buyers' minds as to whether that aluminum truck is such a good idea and, more importantly, that the steel truck is NOT a bad idea.
