I read the Tennyson poem before I ever read Homer's original but your
analysis is one of the best I have heard. Great video mate. I love this
kind of thought sharing. Many thanks and all the best.
+Aaron's allotment Thanks Aaron, deep in greek mythology at the moment, some really interesting stuff to learn from it, how everything hangs together, the world, humans and conciousness, will try and get it into video form at some point.
Given the opportunity to become lotus eaters, I think some cultures are
more prone to it than others are. We might find ways of adjusting to it. I
see a parallel in exercise. It used to be that everyone got their exercise
just by doing what they needed to survive. Now, most people can get by
without doing any. We adjusted by doing exercise just for the sake of
exercise in addition to whatever else we do with our time (if we have it).
If we wind up with that paradise where machines do everything for us, they
might also do whatever prodding required to keep us human. One might say
that this would make us almost human, since we're no longer self-prodders,
but in the beginning it was nature that prodded us, not us (we did what we
had to to survive). We're sort of in between right now. Nature prods us,
and so do we.
I gave this some thought this morning as i was going about my morning
jobs...and i think something like this.
If you don't believe in God then the answer is pretty clear. Everything
happens by chance and the consequences of the best "chance happenings"
become dominant until by chance some other chance happening comes along and
dominates. In the context of human life this means whatever an individual
does is by chance and no moral or social consequences can be put upon the
individual. Human will always conquer human. Societies will replace
societies. The answers don't matter because there are no answers in such a
world only chance. (Cont.)
If on the other hand you believe in God then the answer depends upon who that God is. I personally think humans were made for a paradise. A paradise in which we had a choice to live in a relationship with God or not. Love is always a choice. A God who is love will not force himself onto you. As soon as you choose not to be in relationship with God things fall apart pretty quickly. Man tries to find paradise but does so without a desire to live in love with God and fellow humans. Such a paradise is actually the opposite of parradise. Life is not so much about getting back to a paradise as it is about choosing to re-enter a relationship with God..to live in love. Lotus eaters are simply people seeking paradise apart from God.
Powerful stuff mate especially after a funeral today of a much love and
cool uncle. He was certainly not a Lotus eater and over 150 people who were
there would agree. Plus you've just made me cry again so get in that garden
and get some work done ✌️
