+Ryan Pogue I would say that the Houdini would be ok to wear under a 35 lb pack, although, I haven't carried a pack that heavy in a while, so it's hard for me to say for sure. Of course, my Houdini is a 2012 version, so, it is a few versions ago, and is not quite the exact same as the current, but to me it feels like it is a bit of a durable material, although, depending on how often you used it under the pack would also decide just how long it would last...In light rain, it will bead water, however, not forever. Also know that DWR is a fragile application to the exterior of the jacket, and that 35 lb pack will likely wear the DWR off pretty quickly, and around the shoulders specifically, so you should expect some wetting out there to begin with. The good thing is, you can easily restore the DWR with some wash in treatment at home, which I believe can then be revived by simply throwing it in the drier for a bit (for a period of time anyway). The bad thing is, this won't help you on the trail... So, as long as you understand the limitations of the jacket, and don't try to push past these, you will be fine.Good luck!
