That guy's views on when an officer is on and off duty is missplaced and horribly flawed. Maybe he isn't from Texas..IDK...Other states and municipalities have different rules on off-duty employment. Police in Texas are always on duty regardless of who pays them. The reason why private businesses employ sworn officers in lieu of private security is specifically for their arrest powers. Otherwise, IHOP could have a $12/hr security guard. Officer showed excessive patience. No disrespect....

Private property, which means it's similar to being on your own property,someone shows up to a gathering and starts disrespecting you. YOU admitted that YOU started "clowning on him" after he threw others out, so he asked you to leave. AND believe it or not, THAT"S HIS JOB. Security work is 90% proactive (cops are 90% reactive). which means he is supposed to keep problems from happening, and people takin jabs at the officer in that situation are OBVIOUSLY a potential problem. seems to me like some vital information is missing from this video. @pogjensenThe justification you speak of, applies when the officer is in legitimate carriage of LE duties. This began as a completely personal altercation- in no way related to the officer's LE duties or his duties as security for IHOP. He didn't want the lady who is seated in the video talking to some Draconcon fans who happened into the restaurant. When he didn't get his way, he was suddenly a cop again. That's what happened. The lady who gets punched was defending the other lady. Court transcripts related to the case are available to the public.

Officer Vidal has been cleared of wrong doing by: The Office of Profession Standards, Internal Affairs, the Police Academy Staff, District Attorney's Office, Police Union, Citizens Review Board, Neighborhood Comities, IHOP management and witnesses ON THE SCENE WHO SAW WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE THE CAMERA WAS TURNED ON. All these people, hundreds of them, support the Officer because they're looking at the whole picture, the totality of the circumstances and according to established law by the PEOPLE.

@cartooncatfights ....... The cop gave her a quick hand check, not hurting her at all, but letting her know he was very serious and NOT playing with her. She for some retarded reason thought that pushing a cop was ok and that there wouldn't be any consequences for it. What should have happened was the second Officer SHOULD have pulled her out of the way while she was still holding the camera in the first Officer's face. They faced and defeated absolutely horrendous police brutality - fire hoses, police dogs, clubs - without hitting back even once. So, this is WRONG. Watch the other videos... She was trying to tell him to stop because her friend hadnt done anything. My dad was a cop and he would never hit a woman. @cartooncatfights A hand check is defined as an open hand strike or push. It's light strike or push are techniques not meant to do harm but as light hands on techniques. So a slap would be the same thing. Police are encouraged to use open hand strikes cause they're less likely to break their hands striking perps. The cop "hit" first, yes, but it was in response to being pushed and obstructed while he was already hands on with the black lady.
