+Variant Reality He said that he got the PA National Guard patch in Iraq while a member of the 1st Cav. So how does a brigade outrank a division? That's where the story was shady.  Now just tell me how a BDE outranks a Division and we will call it a day. Yes, I know that active duty can deploy as a fill in for ANOTHER guard unit, but remember a single guard soldier cannot deploy with active duty units.

I've seen active duty soldiers with a reserve brigade combat patch, but this guy told me he was an 11B, and got the patch in Iraq.

I've seen plenty of AD guys on post (Fort Hood for that matter) rocking a NG patch on their right shoulder while currently in 1st CAV.EditAnd yes, a volunteer deployment can get an active duty guy attached to a National Guard unit heading out. We just had a MI systems repairer leave for a deployment. A NG unit mobilizing was in need of someone of his rank and MOS and he volunteered to go. He found out and left in the same week. So before you make a fool of yourself, be sure you know all the facts.
