This happened to me.  My daughter was throwing away a bunch of clothes so I went through the bag and decided to make her this out of an old pair of jeans.  When she went to put it on it was about a foot too small. She then got really upset and said she was throwing away those jeans because they no longer fit after she fell of the wagon from Jenny Craig a few years ago.  woopsie! She crumpled the apron up and threw it at me and told me to get the hell out and slammed the door in my face.  I just sewed on an extension and am considering going over there and giving it to her.   

You should use a pair of your old jeans (or another kind of pant/cotton??) that Currently Fit you, therefore, you should be able to fasten them!! :) If you don't have any that fit, buying a pair at a second-hand store in your size, the least expesive one, as you will be cutting them, should do!
