Seriously needs his own a-hole based rally show.Actually, he would be far better doing the color commentary for Red Bull GRC than the assclowns they have doing it now.
that dude will be a TV personality one day for sure
Mt Washington Auto Road - Worst Weather in the World
A drive up the Mt Washington Auto Road on 7 June 2009. Mount Washington is the highest of the Presidential Range of the White Mountains in New Hampshire.
the road to the top is a joke, I hiked that mountain and camped out on the
mountain for two nights. one of the best experiences ever. those girls
don't know cold!
+Kasey Ross Mount Washington earned the label "Home of the World's Worst Weather" by being the long-time holder of the highest wind speed ever recorded on the earth's surface. That record has since been broken. I do not know what sort of gust speeds were associated with Katrina.
If the wind is this bad in June i don't hold out much hope for the end of
September which is when we plan to visit. Is there ever a good day up
there? I guess that's a relative thing huh?
Yeah... I think you'd miss the Mt. Washington experience if there wasn't some exciting weather moving across the summit! Enjoy your upcoming visit. Are you driving up the toll road? The other 2 options are hiking or riding the Cog Railway.
Going Up Mount Washington, NH 2004
This was the last time I went up Mt. Washington, I took the tour on the "stage" quite a few times before. I never drove my car up there, it is just not worth the wear ...
I've hiked Mt.Washington and it took all day from just after sunrise to
sunset, top to bottom. The terrain is very, very rugged and is not for
rookies. Mt.Washington has people die on it every year. It's a beautiful
place, but it demands respect and preparation, or you could become a
statistic. The weather on Mt.Washington can change very rapidly and above
the tree line, visibility can quickly drop to only a few feet. There are
four different storm fronts that converge on Mt.Washington...
...so for hiking, the weather is a concern. Good hiking boots, spare socks,
spare t-shirts, charged cell phones, emergency phone numbers, flashlights,
plenty of high energy foods, lots of water, rain gear, possibly a pup tent
in case you get caught in bad weather, first aid kit, matches, etc., are
all a very, very good idea to bring along in a back pack. Mt.Washington is
a very beautiful place, but it's as serious as a heart attack. Hiking it
isn't any stroll in the park. Be prepared.
Bill, Great video. I love the mountains. I have never been up on Mount
Washington. I have been up on Mount Mitchell (elevation 6,684 feet) it is
the highest point east of the Rockies. Located about 35 miles northeast of
downtown Asheville NC. I have been up there several times since childhood.
The first time we went was in 1960 we were on a 1956 Rambler. We didn't
think the rambler would make it up the mountain but it did. Thank you for
sharing your trip. Rich (ncautoman57)
Hi Rich, Thanks for the comment, the last time we went on vacation in NH
was in 2006, now retired and no money....haha. 2004 was the last time I
went up mount Washington, wife stayed at gift shop, she hates hights. I
love the north country, when it is hot and humid here, it is so nice and
cool in the white mountains. Bill
Hi C.W., Yes it was, when you take the stage up they only give you 30
minutes on the summit and you have to be ready to get back on the stage, if
not you are on your own. You may get another stage to take you down, but
that is not guarantied. Thanks for stopping by. Bill
@old64goat I know what you mean about no money, tough times right now but,
i'm glad you and your wife got to go up there again and i'm glad you filmed
this. Your filming was superb by the way. You enjoy your weekend my friend
and thanks again. DANNY
@vracer88, I would love to go back to New Hampshire again, but being
retired and the very high price of gas, my vacation days are over. Glad you
can hike up there, if I tried that I would be dead before I got 100 feet up
the mountain. Bill
Hi Jerry, Thanks, yes it is not worth having a brake job done when you get
down. Those "stages" have heavy duty transmissions and they hardly ever use
their brakes. They drive in low gear on the way down.. Bill
Awesome. Beautiful. My parents have some video of driving on Pike's Peak
back in 1995. They mounted the camera to the top of the car somehow, and
the view is incredible!
This car survive the Mount Washington Auto Road with its twisting roads and beautiful vistas. You definitely don't want to look over the edge while driving up and ...
