i hope someone with you narrow thinking never has the power to make policy decisions that will really affect the lives of people. If we follow your logic of as long as my actions are not the direct result of the poverty of someone else, I don't need to tolerate them, then all the poor need to do is obtain what they want by any means, force, illegality, and murder, and then argue that we should not have poverty for those who are now poor when they move onto their land without paying rent

i paint with two great people from this favela. most of the brazillian police are corrupt. corruption is rampant and the brazillian drug war is a primary fuel for the corruption. unlike this country the police more times than not kill you if you cant pay up or just for the sake of doing so. or they kill you if rival faction wants your head. seems to me that if the braz. gov. realy cares about it's people and wants to make progress stop waging war against them and murdering your people.

immediately beside my condominium building here in Morumbi a plot of land is fast becoming a favela. Four years ago there was in invasion of 20 people, now its close to 150.The "elite" politicians you refer to are ONLY kept in power by these same people...its bricks for votes as you probably know. Real democracy does not exist here in Brazil... as as long as every "bairo noble" has a favela it never will. Favelas should not be tolerated nor should social injustice.

Would you tolerate being kept in the same dirt poor role while seeing how your countrys money was being spent keeping a very small group of people filthy rich, or financing a goverment who fail to keep the simplest of promises a goverment must make to its people.

The main solution to poverty; be it in Brazil or elsewhere, is an aggressive investment in education. The brazilian government is currently giving out welfare to families to keep their children in school, which is good. On the other hand the beneficiaries have an increased dependancy on these handouts, insentivising population growth and beginning look like the US.

American media never says the truth about other countries, there are a lot good things in Brazil that the USA dont have. If Brazil is so terrible like this video say, so why many American prefer to live in Brazil rather than their country? There are many, and I know bunch of Americans who dont want to go back to their "land of freedom" .

People should understand the concept of Favela... It started when people moved to the big cities and claimed the right to live on other peoples land for free, without paying rent, light or power. Before you sympathize with these people ask yourself if you would tolerate them on your doorstep.

@StopSexualtourisPerv Brazilians rich want to keep the statis quo and Brazil poor happily sell their votes for bricks. eg. My condo refuses to raise the salary of the porters above minimum wage. Brazilians get the government they deserve and probably will always be "the country of tomorrow".

I have a solution... How about less taxes for the poor and middle classes, lower interest rates, less bureaucracy when hiring or opening a business? In Brazil the richer you are less taxes you pay, that has been the problem since the 60s...

Goby, his face is blurred because he was later identified as being a minor...If blurring his face because he is a minor is a whole different story though. This is horrible publicity to my country & hometown, alas....
