Let's get in to the nitty gritty of all this - because this really could go either way.A hiatus, by definition, is "a break or interruption in the continuity of a work, series, action, etc." When bands go on "hiatus," that's usually more than a break from touring or recording. It means that their future is uncertain and they're not sure what to do - so they are breaking up with a slight chance of getting back together. Pete even said, "I don't know the future of Fall Out Boy. It's embarrassing to say one thing and then have the future dictate another. As far as I know Fall Out Boy is on break (no one wants to say the 'H' word)."The Killers took a break after Day & Age - they didn't make a big announcement to the press or anything. They just took a year off because they knew they'd be back. FOB's hiatus, however, was a much bigger deal. The band members kept in contact, but didn't really see each other much. It had a really big impact on their lives in a negative way.Here are some quotes from Pete:"Don't you get it? A hiatus is forever until you get lonely or old. I don't plan on either." "I can't imagine playing in FOB again... Something would have to change in my head or my heart - not my wallet.""Letting go of this giant part of my life has been hard, but I am convinced I will find something new that sparks me in a similar way. This is not a vacation. But I want to be back on tour, having my son watch me from the side of the stage, and that will happen when I find the right magnet.""Act est fibula" (latin for "The play is over")When FOB got back together, they didn't want to treat it like a reunion. Patrick Stump straight up said that they weren't back to play a greatest hits tour. They wanted to start over, reinvent themselves, and be a new band. Their official PR statement said, "This isn't a reunion because we never broke up. We needed to plug back in and make some music that matters to us. The future of Fall Out Boy starts now."While the official story is that they never broke up, clearly - for some time - the band members themselves weren't sure whether or not they broke up. All music functions ceased for several years. So it all depends on what you want to consider a "break" versus a "breakup." Billboard called it a breakup and a reunion, MTV called it a breakup and a reunion, etc. Even Andy said, "If we don't take a break, we're going to break up." Things were that close. So either term would be an appropriate term. While the official story is that they never broke up, the truth is things were very, very rocky. Lucky for us, they got better!

+Clarissa Baker Both fantastic songs. Their last two albums have been fantastic. We just wanted to make a well rounded list that includes the best from all of their albums. If we could have, we would have put "Alone Together" in addition to those two on our list. We love FOB!

+Louisa Caylen-Bedoya Totally wish "The (Shipped) Gold Standard" could have made it on our list. The intro to that song is great. And the line, "I wanna scream I love you from the top of my lungs, but I'm afraid that someone else will hear me" is such an honest line.
