Dont you think its kinda arrogant of PTA. that he intentionaly casted a
'braindead comedy actor' and surprised all the critics?
even the plot is simillar to usual Adam sandler comedy. dontyouthink?
+Jesse Curry oh well. Im not complaining about this film. I love it as much as There will be blood. and Sandler was perfectly cast... but i still get the feeling that PTA was showing off. like, using sandler as some kind of handicap. i dont know.
+Nate Hamann No, not really. He did more of these heavier films--"Spanglish," "Reign Over Me" and "Men, Women, Children."There'll be others. Maybe when people stop clamoring hard for the trademark Sandler-schtick.
+Nate Hamann think about it this way, when this movie came out it really didn't do that great, and his half assed comedy films do good, from a financial perspective, even if he isn't to fond of those movies he'll do a bad movie, even though he would like to do more serious movies, but of course everyone labels him as a bad and overpayed actor so when he does do something like this no one really flocks towards it which is a huge shame.
I never heard that about him before, you have something to back that up? A story or something?
Roger Ebert says "Synecdoche, New York" is the Film of the Decade at Ebertfest
At the Ebertfest this year, Roger Ebert said that Synecdoche, New York was not only the best film the year it came out, but the best film of the decade. Charlie ...

Well, I did also say "crowd behaviour in general" and I didn't once imply that this was somehow a new or internet exclusive thing. I was merely using that as one recent example to show that Ebert wasn't special in the way you were suggesting i.e. that you could pick many similar examples for anyone that had any opinion in the entire history of the world if you so desired. That was the point, I'm sorry you couldn't recognise it as such. I will say that I still have the greatest respect for Roger Ebert, and I was not suggesting that he didn't experience hate for his opinions, because we all know that he did.I'm also well aware that people had dumb opinions before the internet, after all I had similar conversations face to face for the majority of my life before Internet Explorer was a twinkle in Microsofts eye. The only difference "these days" it seems, is the anonymity tempting people to jump to assumptions regarding others.
+carruthers100 "Dislikes" and "internet"? Dude, people sent hate mail to Ebert decades ago for some of his reviews. I remember my fellow students going on rants about Ebert before facebook came along. If you were a poncey art student it was considered a sin to agree with Ebert because his likes were too "mainstream". People had dumb opinions before the internet you know. The only difference is these days, as you've just shown, you don't even need to have a point anymore.
+killboggins You might not hold it against Kermode when you don't agree with him, but plenty of people do. Just look at the dislikes and comments on his birdman vs boyhood video. There is nothing special about Ebert in this regard at all, it's the nature of the internet and crowd behaviour in general unfortunately. You can replace Ebert in your opening comment with absolutely any name, and you might as well yell "wah wah wah" into the void (as Kermode might say) for all the good it will do.
+Stephen Smith I am indeed. Dreadful stuff. But even though Kermode liked it I don't hold it or any reviews I dsagree with against him like so many people did with Ebert.
