So I don't know why you keep harping on that.Secondly, the major difference between taking oil out the equation and London out of the equation is that the collapse of the North Sea Oil industry is a very real prospect in lieu of the OPEC-US price wars.Whereas London disappearing is not going to happen.To say you don't want the Barnett formula, while true in some sense, is hypocritical, since the SNP criticize the Westminster parliament for not increasing their budget as they would like. In other words, they're still not content with getting EVEN MORE money than the rest of the UK per head to spend.As for the Scottish parliament doing a better job, that's a very easy thing to do when you have more money, and don't have to worry about international issues, or macroeconomic issues. It's like the school council patting itself on the back because the recycling was a success.

+gotsda  Like you say every economy is affected by the oil price. But the Scottish economy is broadly the same at the rest of the Uk without oil. Take London out the equation it is higher. If Scotland was independent oil wouldn't be taken out of the equation it would be part of it. I repeat - a large majority of Scots don't want the Barnett Formula. They don't want this situation. They want us to be responsible for raising our own money and spending it. The Uk media has been perpetuating the myth that Scotland is subsidised for decades. That in my opinion is a key reason why the UK will break up. You keep telling people they can't do something and they will try and prove you wrong. Scotland and the independence movement doesn't blame the English or anybody. In fact there are many English people involved as well as some of the SNP politicians. The blame culture is a myth. Or course there will be a few idiots. Everyone has their fair share. This is about self determination and continuing the better job our parliament is doing than Westminster.

So to say the Scottish economy isn't dictated to by oil is to distinguish it from the rest of the developed world. Of course however that is a fiction.Secondly, I never said Scotland's economy was dictated to by oil, in fact I said very clearly that Scotland's wealth was in fact what was dictated by it. As you correctly pointed out, Scotland has a lower GDP than the rest of the nation when oil is taken out of the equation, yet you get more money than everyone else. Which sort of makes the parading around of the governments success a bit hollow considering other parts of the nation are tasked to do the same job for less.So an Independent Scotland would very much have it's wealth dictated to it by oil cartels as it's entire balance sheet could be controlled by them. Of course it would probably be England's fault for not agreeing to support the North Sea Industry with subsidies. It always is.

I'd suggest you do a bit more research into Scotland's economy. It's not dictated by the price of oil. In fact: "... if a geographical share of oil is included, the Scottish economy was £2,500 bigger per person in 2013. Without oil and gas, the GDP figure in Scotland is slightly below the UK average, but sill bigger than lots of UK regions, as the London figure drives up the UK average."  Every year for 32 years (the entire available data) GERS (Governmental Expenditure and Revenue Report (Scotland) includes a deduction from Scotland’s block grant equivalent to Scotland’s population percentage share of Westminster debt. Over the 32 years, Scotland’s share of UK debt interest amounted to £64.1 billion. However, during that time had Scotland been an independent country with its geographic share of oil revenues established under international law (as would be the case under independence) Scotland’s’ borrowing over 32 years would have been zero. All major polls for the last 8 years have shown the majority of Scots want fiscal autonomy (or Devo Max) but to remain in the UK. The Barnett Formula was imposed on Scotland and England. Scots don't want it and we would be better off without it.

What? Almost ever highlander in Scotland has worn the kilt many times in there life's what are you talking about!  Have you ever been to a Scottish wedding or a Scotland football match or Rugby match.Don't get me wrong I understand your point you are putting across about how we can look after our self's and we have more money per head than the English, but don't go down to the English level, still always be proud of our national dress.The Middle East have national dress biggest oil producers in the world, the Russians have a national dress also 2 big countries.
