@MacAdvisorUK I've now tried the iPod in the dock without an adapter and guess what? A message comes up on the iPod: "This accessory is not supported by iPod Touch" So that's it. What a pain. £40 wasted at Tesco. I must remember not to shop for this kind of product instore. Much better to go online and study products before making a decision. So I've just ordered this new product from Amazon: Klipsch iGroove HG iPod Speaker System. More expensive but I just have to cut my losses. Grrrr....!

You have youthful hands and a cool northern voice. It's a great change from all the south-east accents we hear. Very clear and helpful description. For me though it's the wrong model! I bought a Gear4 HouseParty Blade recently. My new iPod Touch is supposed to dock on the top of the set. I've done that today but there's no sound coming from the speakers. (The iPod itself is audible.) I wonder if I'm using the wrong dock adapter - there's three others. Care to comment, Mac Advisor UK?

a lot of speaker docks have that issue either with the latest devices or with older devices, there's not a lot that can be done about it. If a device is brand new and the speaker dock was originally made years ago then that's why the issue occurs, likewise if the speaker dock is the latest model and you use an older device you have the same issue. In most cases you can dismiss the on screen message and continue using it.

The Evo is essentially the same speaker dock, but you can download a free Gear4 app that allows you to control the speaker. I tested one and it's not something I'd really use as my phone would be docked with the speaker anyway and you get a remote control with the speaker out the box. But if you think this may be useful, if you have a second iDevice to use the app with, then it would be worth going for the Evo.

@Baggieboy291163 Usually if a message flags up you can just dismiss it and dock the iPhone as usual and carry on, should work fine. I've had to do the same for the last couple of years. There will probably come a time when the dock doesn't recognise the iPhone with it being made before some of the phones and any iOS software update could cause it not to work with the dock at any moment.

I guess it depends whether you need the alarm clock function of the rise. The HouseParty 4 is great sound wise and can go really loud. I only ever go up to about level 16 on the volume that's loud enough usually but it goes all the way up to volume level 40! This would easily fill a room for a party or something, I've not heard the Rise but would imagine it would be similar.

@Bouncybon I used to get the same message with my iPhone 4, but if I dismissed the message it would work fine. This was due to the fact that the dock didn't initially recognise it as an iDevice as the iPhone was released well after the dock. Does the iPod work if you dismiss the message and try playing it? Is it a current gen iPod or a slightly older model?

@Bouncybon Hi, try the other dock adapters first and see which one best fits your device. If it doesn't work with any of them then try it without a dock adapter to see if the sound plays through the speakers. Which generation of iPod Touch do you have?

@siliconglenn I've had mine for over two years and had no problems. Any product that you buy can break soon after buying it, there's always going to be a small percentage of a certain product that fails. But I'd still recommend this dock to anyone.

I would say the bass is very good without over emphasising it, if you're looking for a speaker dock that has more bass than anything then I'd go for something else. But this is a great all rounder with great bass depending on what you're after.

i cant get my smartlink to work for my ipod touch do you have any advice as when we put alarms on the ipod or anything it doesnt wok and we have got both the smartlinks from the app store so we dont know what else to do, hope you can help??

@Baggieboy291163 Hi there, Have you tried resetting you iPhone? its sounds like the phone isnt authenticating. Try holding down the power and home buttons at the same time untill the apple log appears on screen Let me know how you got on!

@rhyville1 Hi, yes it will charge and play the iPod Touch 4G according to Gear 4. It should act the same way as the iPhone 4 where it says it doesn't recognise the device and won't auto initiate airplane mode. Should work fine though.
