Don't wear shoes and walk up and down the stairs for a while till your body gets use to it even walking up and down stairs burns more calories then jogging believe it or not :p it is a very hard and rigorous workout if you don't know what your doing when you do these types of workouts or you will end up with torn muscles even if your as fit as can be my friend is a marathon runner did 10k run but he gets out of breath from running up 4 flights of stairs it's not because he is not healthy or unfit it's because it is a different type of workout and puts a lot more strain on the body 1h of stairs running up and down is almost if not 2x better then running for 2h

You would gain muscle it really depends on how much protein you eat the more you work out the leaner you would get but if you ate let's say something very high in protein your leg muscle would most certainly grow unless you can burn off all of that protein and more so it eats away the muscle you gain with it very confusing but the body is a energy sucker it wants to gain as much as it can in times of need and if you over use your body it would need to help itself = time of need :p

to go slow ''SLOW' and more importantly the muscle 'TIME UNDER TENSION'
is where you will get the results you are looking for...these fast reps do
nothing for muscle break down and reduce the effectiveness (they are good
for cardio but not for muscle growth). Its like guys that swing the
dumbells instead of using strict form! They can do an extra 20 reps but
are not using the muscle but just using the momentum. Hold at the top and
bottom of each rep for 5 - 10 seconds (and build this up longer each time)
and you will see the difference with your results and FEEL the muscle has
been worked the next day.
