This record made it all the way to number one here in OKC back in 1959 on
our top 40 radio station survey. Always did like this record. Good Post.
Larry N. Boyington, aka Larry Neal, former curator of the Wax Museum on the
big 1520 KOMA Lyric was probably the original label it came out on before
distributed nationally by Judd Records.
Cookie had records on Lyric from 1963 -1964. Mathilda came out on Khoury's
in 1958 and then was leased to Judd. Phil Phillips fpllowed on Khoury's in
1959 with Sea of Love and then went to Mercury. Cookie then went to Mercury
in 61, Chess in 63, Lyric in 63 and Paula in 64. After that I don't know.
Good 'ol swamp rock ...... My wife and I searched and searched and finally
called Dick Bartley on his show and asked if he remembered who did it and
he knew it immediately. So now...... we wear it out.... heh heh heh This
was big when I was a child back in Galena Park Texas.
This was played at all the backyard dances, dirt and cement patios---it was
great for slow dancing and the best for doing the Strand----There are a lot
of wonderful memories hearing this again. granny67 albuquerque
