A rare pair of 1969 Boss 302 Mustangs from the Fabulous Fords Forever show 2013
https://www.youtube.com/user/MustangConnection1 Wow they are rare as they are consecutive unit numbers meaning they were built one right after another ...
A look under the hood of the Boss! Notice the serial number and Boss number inscribed on the plate! It's the color combination I would choose if I were ordering ...
Jack, The Boss Mustang was introduced in 1969. Larry Shinoda, brought over
from GM where he worked on Corvette styling with Zora Duntov, was given the
assignment to help produce a world class road car for "Trans Am" racing.
The working prototypes were called Mustang Trans Am until Ford learned GM
had licensed the name. Shinoda started calling the car the "Boss" in
tribute to then Ford President Semon "Bunkie" Knudsen. This current version
produces 444 HP and nicely preserves the legend .
Hey....anyone can make their late model mustang a boss 302 ....just go get
the engine cover and decals.....if anyone asks....just tell them it was
"special edition" boss that ford put out but did not promote.....lol....I
saw a guy with 2010 gt and he put the boss 302 decals on it....I asked him
about it....he said he like the decals......i thought that was
funny.....and confusing....lol
@jferg7159 Hey, Joe! I had the pleasure of seeing Larry Shinoda at the
annual meeting of Corvettes at Winter Haven's Cypress Gardens. Very cordial
individual! I also saw Zora Duntov at one of Carlisle's shows. It sure is
interesting to see these larger than life people...they gave these cars
life! Thanks for the history! :) Jack
@rush2112mn I certainly agree with that...I think Ford has learned
something with this in that the new Mustang to be coming soon will modify
many of those styling changes that were made in 2010. Camaro has been
outselling Mustang recently...if nothing else, that gets the attention of
Ford management! Thanks! :) Jack
amazing machine, from a technician standpoint though i really dotn like the
MT-82 getrag sourced transmission just my opinion. i like the tremec unit
we use in the shelbys more, tahts just me though. a great car non the less
and it sounds great in person!
@rush2112mn I think that would be a great idea...since many Mustangs are
kept for quite some time, and in fact become collector cars, a bit more
authentication would be welcome. The option on seating could also add to
the brand too! Thanks! :) Jack
@gene978 Hey, Gene! Yep, this is THE BOSS! You were absolutely right about
the black painted wheels..and I've noticed some with gun metal finish too!
It appears that nothing stands still in the design department! Thanks! :)
Jack
@biffnacid Hey, Rich! No problem at all...I see that some of the new 5.0
Mustangs are having a bit of trouble shifting the manual transmission...I
think Ford is aware of it, and trying to find a fix. Thanks! :) Jack
They should number every Mustang....in my opinion......weither it is v6 gt
shelby ect....... I think you should have the option of a backseat in v6 gt
or shelby too.... I prefer the black on red myself.....
I think the Boss would look better with the 05-09 shape.....could care less
for what ford did to the 2010 styling....the black plastic bottom trim does
not look good....painted would be better....
Who's the BOSS!? Hahaha! See, I told you Jack that painted wheels would be
the next thing after the "CHROME" rush. I figured I'd see a lot more gun
metal color on the wheels too.
@JesseAndMike Hey, guys! It's great to see a two tone car..even if it's not
two tone in the old way...the black rims are a real compliment to the paint
scheme! Thanks! :) Jack
@rush2112mn So true! I know someone who had a 2011 who made some changes
like that! Then someone asked to see the valet key! That stopped the
illusion! :D Thanks! :D Jack
