Why Baltimore still hates the Indianapolis Colts & Bob Irsay
Nestor Aparicio takes to the streets of Indianapolis 25 years after the theft of Baltimore's horseshoes and franchise to see Lucas Oil Field and the Hoosier city.
Don't you not have a foot to stand on being your city did to Cleveland what
Inidianpolis did to Baltimore. Then again they didn't actually do the same
thing though which is worse what the Colts did sneeking out at the last
second or what the Browns did annocing they were leaving.
All this said by a Mets fan who is still angry that the Giants and Dodgers
are in California.
+Leigh Silver The real person to blame or give credit to is John Moag then head of the Maryland Stadium Authority who chose Modell and the Browns over the Buccaneers or the Cardinals who were both interested in moving there. He went with him because of his track record and potential success. Another angle was had the Browns stayed, Al Davis was ready to move instead.
Operations were suspended during those years. But that doesn't mean that the team was 'stolen' by Baltimore. Art Modell announced the year before, that the 1995-96 NFL season would be the Browns' last, and as a result there were enraged fans in Cleveland, which led to the city suing to keep the team, but under one condition; The name logo, colors, records and history would remain in Cleveland, while the roster would be only allowed to relocate to Cleveland with Art Modell. So therefore the Browns, like I said earlier, never technically left Cleveland. Their games were just suspended for three consecutive seasons.
+Leigh Silver If the Browns were stolen, how are STILL in Cleveland. I'm sick of hearing people accuse Baltimore of stealing the Browns, when they (technically) never left Cleveland to begin with.
The Colts thing is WORSE. The reason being, is because they snuck one of, if not THE greatest NFL teams of all time from the city that made them great. So in comparison to that particular incident, the city of Baltimore would be saints, thanks to how then-owner Art Modell handled the situation in Cleveland. He did the RIGHT thing, by announcing to every fan in Cleveland that the 1995 NFL season, would be the last for the Browns in Cleveland ( until 1999). The reason why the Browns are still in Cleveland in the first place, is because of Art Modell's announcement. Had he not done that, there wouldn't have been a resulting lawsuit to keep the Browns' name, and Cleveland's Browns would've became Baltimore's Browns, thus giving the city of Cleveland a TRUE reason to accuse Baltimore of being 'crooks'. BTW, the Browns never actually left Cleveland, only the roster did, thus resulting in a three-year hiatus for the team from the 1996 to 1998 NFL seasons.
+Leigh Silver honestly I don't really even care. I was 2 when the Colts left town. People my age and younger only care about the ravens. Its just the old timers that make a big fuss about it. Besides the Colts sucked the first 15 years they were in Indy until Peyton got there.
