On March 23, 2005, Bill Hines celebrated his 83rd birthday, and it poses an appropriate time to reminisce his 60+ years in a career he loved--and still ...
i met bill in salina ks he was choppin an old car at kustom kemps car show
hes one heck of a nice guy he say he chews his cigar when hes working and
smokes it when hes not doing anything.if u get a chance to go to this car
show do go i think it in sept around the 15 to the 20th.hes there every
year choping a car
awesome stuff, two of my idols, and this vid reminds me of my grandpa
before he died, he had a heart attack when he started his car because it
made his heart flutter cause it ran so good and he couln't take it
Make sure you have adequate ventilation if you do this. Lead fumes are
toxic. This old guy smokes cigars, so you know he doesn't care.
Don't pull a file backwards like that, either. That's not good for the
file teeth. Push the file forward only, LIFT it off, and repeat.
+Wallace Adrian D'Alessio I'm 26 and since the day I seen footage of bill doing leading (the first time I had ever heard of such a thing) I knew he was a special person, he has been a role model for me ever since, someone I could look up to and say "I want to be like that"!,doing it the right way because it's the right way and not compromising on anything. He is a metaphor for how I wan't to be in all aspects of my life.
+Wallace Adrian D'Alessio You said it perfect man. This guy you are talking to is probably some button pushing 20 year old. Who has seen it all and done it all. This new generation is even worse than mine. You can show these kids things. But it's just to much work for them to apply. They need something that they can push buttons on. LOL
Bill did not "end up like that" ! He worked his ass off plying his art all of his life despite the physical condition you make jest of. how about educating yourself in kustom kulture history and appreciating a true artis who actually had a hand in building those cars which everyone points to as the masterpieces of the golden era of customization? We old timers idolize Bill. He is the real deal. And not your laughing stock.
I wasen't aware Bill was ill. I do hope he has a speedy recovery and can get back to doing what he does best! I only wish I could have recorded more of him working in his shop creating some of the finest custom vehicles around. There is nothing more fun than watching the old masters at their craft.

Bill built this one in the early 60s and now has the task of bringing it back to its glory days, with some modern updates. Maybe put the rabbit ears on the roof.
