Subic Bay Liberty USS Independence, 1992 Part 1.wmv
Navy Liberty at Subic Bay Philippines, 1992. USS Independence, CV 62, the last Carrier to visit Subic Bay before Navy Base closed. Subic Bay was home away ...
Been there done that on every ship I have been on in my Navy days doing a
Westpac Except my last ship I was on. The U.S.S Oklahoma City (CG-5), the
U.S.S Kiska (AE-35), the U.S.S Brewton (FF-1086), the U.S.S. Leftwich
(DD-984) and the U.S.S Prairie (AD-15). I remember the smell of sh*t river
passing by, the smell of monkey meat and throwing back some San Miguel
beers and Mojos, the hookers calling you honeyco, Man those were the
days!!!
USS San Jose, we stopped at the SRF there 3x in 91'-92' for about a month
at a time. The only place were standing duty was a blessing, could finally
dry out and get a good nights rest. I saw T's tavern, the first interior
bar shot in this video. My girlfriend from Guam made a surprize visit to
Manila when my ship was there and found me in T's on a saturday afternoon.
LOL.
Thanks for the Likes. I shot this video in March 1992 when I was stationed
at NAS Cubi Point in Squadron VC-5. The base would close in Sept of that
year. I left around July. Pinatubo volcano blew up during my tour there. I
was stationed in PI twice and made 7 Westpacs on Range and Kitty Hawk. I
loved PI. I got a house there and will be vacationing there when I retire
Oh how I miss those Navy days. I was there in 88 with the New Orleans,
there will never be a place like that again for the navy. Now they allow
women and fags on board ships, you have to be PC where ever you go. Yea the
Navy you see in this video is dead and gone, but thanks for sharing it for
those who will never get the chance to experience it.
thx for posting this video,i was born in olongapo city back in 75,i used to
go in all this clubs n bars hanging out with navys, every body is happy when
we hear liberty,i have seen uss enterprise back in the 80s when my step
father used to take me inside the base, uss ogden lpd 5,what a good
memories,
arrived in Subic bay on the way to Vietnam gun line 1971. after 9 months of
bombing, headed back to the USA and stopped again. very fond memories. i
remember the clubs in Olongapo playing "NO ONE TO DEPEND ON" by SANTANA, we
drank and danced.
What do you mean? The US has 28,000 troops, 2 air bases and many Army bases
in South Korea and the US has 36,688 troops and many other bases in Japan.
The US has 2 naval bases in Japan. Yokosuka Naval Base and Sasebo Naval
Base.
I remember pulling in and realizing all the trees were toast due to
Pinataubo a year or two earlier. I was my first and last trip in Navy, but
I went back on business a few years ago to Manila, nothing like Olangapo or
Subic.
Served on board Indy Jan89 thru Nov92, P-3 Div Aux 2 . I must be in the
capital city Manila when this film was taken, but don't get me wrong this
is the place to PARTY!!!. and then some.
You havnt lived if ya never got to experiance Olongapo City before the
base closed down.....I was there on wes-pac's 73,74-75,76,79,81,83,86,and
88.....loved every one of them.
LOL. I thought you might have filmed me somewhere on your camera. I served
on the Indy from 91 to 96. She was, is, and always will be the finest ship
I served on. Six duce!!!!

2001.
