To me, encouraging the building of alliance of nations is similar to forming of street gangs, where one aspires to outgrow the other. One spark, it'll cause a fire. One wrong comment, starts a brawl. Give one a weapon, there'll be war. When ones backing grow larger, it only boost ones' courage to start the 1st spark. Vicious cycle and a simple logic that not alot of world leaders seems to understand..

As clarification: Shanghai is the biggest CONTAINER port in the world thanks to the Yangshan deep water terminal (50 berths), Rotterdam is the biggest by WEIGHT thanks to the ValeMax ore ships that come in, also Rotterdam is the biggest by size as of Q4 2013. Finally Singapore is the biggest by VOLUME. Look at marinetrafficdotcom one time (left side of screen choose Cargo Vessel and Tankers) and see just how many ships are at or around singapore. Wow.

+Michael Syvius The largest port in the US is ICTF Long Beach 70 berths 200 docks and 40 cranes plus a bulk terminal and an oil terminal it is the gateway to America.

Oops also the US only has LongBeach, LA, and Houston as major ports.  If LB/LA were merged as one for classification they would only be 6th.  Why?  The US only has around 310 million people but spread over ALOT of land with ALOT of ports.  Alot of these other countries are big by volume (china) or there are only one or two ports in that particular country that can take the biggest ships out.

I always wonder why containers are placed longitudinally instead of transversely as ships roll more than pitch, I was a shipwright back in the 60's albeit at Chatham Naval Base predominately Submarines, Frigates and Destroyers, and this always bothered me, can someone explain this.
