this is an introductory video. I will be following up a video showing how I got it to work and with more videos that show the non glamorous reality side of ram ...
You did some really good design work making this simple and effective
unloader. Very creative. I had one question about the back piece of
angle-iron. I wondered if the part sticking up caught on the load as it was
moving back, and if that could easily be streamlined. There is not a lot
of force trying to move the full-length guide pipe, so, could that wide
angle-iron brace at the back end be replaced with a less blocking device,
like a flat strap that would lay against the bed, and one small "toe"
upright that the pipe would be attached to? Maybe you could come up with
something that would be like a loose thrust bearing that the pipe could
rest in. Just admiring the design as I try to come up with a load-unloader
for my little "Snowbear" brand utility trailer. Keep on designing cool
tools that make work easier!
+logmeindangit I used the angle iron to spread the load at the rear of the deck, a flat piece would just bend & point load all the weight on the aluminium deck which could damage it, the pulley is pretty flush with the deck so doesn't catch on the load, this was only a prototype which I'm sure could be improved, I would like to see yours if you make a vid. Cheers
Wow! Awesome idea for someone who doesn't quite need to invest in a full on
dump truck, but needs a little help at times! Also, good control with
unloading the cargo material, dump truck is tough control the pile if you
needed to. Thanks for sharing.
+Thomas Smith if you are a firewood business or even selling firewood on your spare time, then rigging this onto your delivery truck could save you lots of money. Productivity is key in ANY business. Just think about it before saying your way is better.
No I have not. As soon as I grab a log, I throw it. I don't lolly gag and f around. Not saying you do either. Also, are you expecting doing wood to be easy work? Some things are.
+Thomas Smith Have you ever been bitten by a whitetail spider? believe me its no fun. Each to their own, work smarter not harder I say, some people enjoy hard work but I prefer to do things the easy way.
We split 45 cords a year. About 38 of that is sold. 1/2 cord unloaded from a pickup takes me and 1 other guy 4 minutes. Maybe this is faster, but the amount of effort and thought put into it doesn't suffice for me. Also, splinters aren't a problem for me. Maybe my hands are used to it, I don't know. And bugs? Really?! Grow up man...This is cool, no doubt, but we stick to the old fashioned way.
+Thomas Smith It takes around 10 - 12 minutes to unload by hand vs 30 seconds with this setup -much easier on the back & no splinters or bugs to worry about, it does make a huge difference when delivering 3 loads a day
