I do think you have not researched, as you just jarringly changed the topic. Rule 38 came about in part due to the split between Grant and Blaine in the 1880 RNC. If the unit rule were to be imposed, many states could reassign delegates won by Sherman, and force their state to vote as a unit, giving a victor. The unit rule was declared unacceptable. This does not eradicate bound votes. As for abstention, any abstaining delegates can simply be replaced by the chair. That's what alternates are for

Wrong. They can abstain, and I'd love to watch these crooks try and remove our delegates. The reason we won all the delegates is because the primary voting was a fraud. We have delegates for this reason. There's no real support for Romney other than the people who think what they're told to think, and people are told to support Romney because he offers no real change from Obama who's offered no real change from Bush. If they want a fight, they'll get one.

@imrnlil rule 38 prevents states dictating that split delegates vote as a unit. So in Nevada Romney has 20 delegates and Paul has 8, Nevada officials can't say "you all vote as a unit for Romney" and deprive Paul of his 8 delegates. Rule 38 did not eradicate the concept of bound delegates. That's a ridiculous idea that sacrifices understanding for optimism

@imrnlil If the delegates abstain they will be replaced by Romney supporters who won't abstain. There isn't any way around it. We needed Santorum and Gingrich to stay in for a brokered convention, and they dropped out. Romney has won.

Rule 38 isn't a surprise at all? Rule 38 means that the delegates Paul has won cannot be forced to vote for Romney (i.e. in a "unit" with the rest of the state). It doesn't eradicate the concept of bound delegates.

@TMOvids You're talking about the first round. delegates can abstain from voting kn the first ballot. After the firstl ballot they are free to vote for whoever theywant.

I was thinking about this myself. As soon as it becomes mainstream that Ron Paul is to be the next President, the powers that be will try to take him out. I'm sure Ron Paul will have good security, but that probably won't be enough. Some countrywide "protect Paul" campaign should be started. Every time Ron Paul goes somewhere, at least one armed supporter should attend (something like that).

Bound on the first ballot? Not bound on the first ballot? This is the elephant squatting in the middle of our revolution. We can have 100% of the delegates but if they are bound on the first ballot to vote for Romney what will it mean? This is a question which no matter how often it is answered leaves open additional questions and considerable uncertainty. We cannot bring an unresolved strategy to the convention floor. An unresolved set of options is not a plan of action. We must have a plan.

Delegate counts in every state should be in question because of the media blackout against any candidate. To impede on a free election is illegal, media are to report not distort whats happening.
