hey brian i have a question for ya! i have a 2002 mazda protege5 and its
front wheel drive. whenever I'm braking at a slower speed as i come to a
stop i can hear this clicking sound and I've pulled apart my brakes and
rotors are good and aren't warped and I've checked my shims and they keep
the calipers in place. any ideas what could be causing this?
+wafrederick Wagner Thermo-Quiets are an excellent pad with bonded friction material and integrated shims. I installed those for a lot of years with no complaints from customers but did notice a shorter than average life compared to most high quality pads. Usually around mid 30k they would need to be replaced.
Thanks +jrmym2. Well Its just how I've always thought of it. Being in the automotive industry my entire life I've seen some pretty awful things comes through the doors of the shop. Rotors split in half, calipers wore right through the piston till it pops out, pads installed backwards...the list goes on lol
+jrmym2 I don't personally have any experience with them but they're probably better than the cheapies as you really do get what you pay for with brakes. I'd keep your old pads that are still relatively new as spares in case you do get in a pinch and need temporary pads but otherwise try and get something better on there.+South Main Auto Repair Exactly, As I told +jrmym2 I try to use the middle ground pads that my local shop sells for my car, it's a bit older so my options are a bit limited but cheap pads are just not worth the risk and the really expensive ones aren't necessary for my type of driving. I like your wording "I've never thought of braking as being an option" Very good way to put it. :P
+cjwolfer I agree. At our shop I refuse to use the "dollar tree" pads just for that reason. It is important and I've never though of braking as being an option lol. Same way I feel about wheel bearings / hubs, steering and suspension parts. It's bad enough that allot of the aftermarket "good stuff" is still Chinese junk, i can't imagine how the good the cheaper parts are. Any how just my 2 sense. I've done a few videos on my channel that I show very time consuming costly problems with aftermarket parts. Shoot me a message if your interested in seeing them.
+jrmym2 Theres your problem, Honestly when it comes to breaks you shouldn't skimp too much on them. Think about it this way, they're one of the most important systems on your vehicle and not something you should take chances with. Plus if you spend a bit extra on the nicer ones (They don't have to be super expensive performance brake pads but middle of the ground) They'll last longer and you'll get that moneys worth out of them. :)

hi so how do you fix this, if possible without taking the wheel off? i just
bought a used car like 2 weeks ago and when i drove it home and tested it
out the brakes didnt make any noise but the next day i went to drive it and
the brakes would squeak sometimes and its really bothering me. the night i
brought it home it was drizzling so i think that contributed to the rusted
rotors
Hi Poopta, There really is no fix if the noise you are getting is from moisture on the rotors, unless you have an option to park in a garage. If you brakes squeak all the time, you may need to update your brake pads to a higher quality pad.
