Looks amazing, although i thought it was anodized Ti to begin with! Theres
some great suggestions below... "K" is also the metric prefix for 1000,
maybe you could play with that? I like "Skribe" through.
Kandi, thanks for posting. I got one of these for the same reason you did:
the oddly unique design. Someone on eBay, juddperl I think, had a bunch of
brand new ones in white for $29, so that's the color I stuck with. I
wouldn't have wanted to pay the $99 to $139 that some colors were going for
without knowing that the thing works, and this was months before you posted
this review. Fortunately, mine has none of the nib problems you mentioned,
but one negative critique I would make is that mine tends to dry out very
quickly . . . EVEN CAPPED! Actually, you can get the feed and nib to come
out as a combined unit. After you screw off that metal cartridge protector,
push forward on the exposed part of the feed rather than pulling. It will
pop right out. Years ago, I saw a converter in a local pen store that looks
just like a standard European short cartridge with a piston inside. Maybe
that will fit. Similar-looking ones from China made of hard plastic that
supposedly are for the Kaweco Sport, and that have appeared on the market a
lot more recently, will not fit the Smart pen, so now I'm wondering if the
ones at the local store are the same or different. The main problem I've
had in getting a converter for this one has been that standard European
converters are too long to fit in the barrel. Where the converter nozzle
goes into the section fits just fine, and I suspect standard disposable
cartridges will too as long as they're the short ones, not the
double-length ones sold by Waterman and Pelikan. One interesting aside: at
the time I bought mine, Judd thought that Smart had had them made in Italy
by Montegrappa, which if it is true might mean they are provided with
German-made Bock nibs. Right after that, however, Judd removed that
information from his eBay listings for these pens, so I'm not sure if he
found out that he was mistaken about who made them, or Montegrappa objected
to his use of their trademarked brand name, or what. It was an interesting
detail, though, I thought.
