Thank you, im really excited. I do need some help however. I want to make a career out of public speaking. I want to be a public speaker for kids in high school. I want to talk to them about the importance of success, and graduating. I also want to take it to the adult side, maybe talk to rehab centers and AA meetings about the importance of success and overcoming their addictions The one things im still worried about, is how could I make it a career and not a free thing i do in my free time?

you are so right I am an experienced presenter but in a recent conference I forgot to breath. I was not nervous but my voice was very shaky!!! dam!!! I relaxed myself and I got my voice back. One thing to remember if you are pregnant your lungh capacity will change so you will feel out of breath so practice in loud voice a few times so you know what your lungh capacity is :D

i used to be very fearfull of getting to ahead of my self but with this little lesson in breathing it made my speech 2 min longer.

Keep one exams who passed give them job why interviews. Interviews is waste of time. Here government is not developing and companies are not giving jobs. 70% of people not having jobs. 20% of people sitting in offices not doing any work, other 10% of people watching porn videos in offices. finally it happens like satyam companies

Ms. expertvillage has some great tips here, but if I may, as an experienced public speaker, and social scientist, add to her insight, and simply ask you to remember to always remain on point, to be organic, not clinical, to treat an audience of any size as though it were merely a small gathering of your friends whom you are ABSOLUTELY convinced MUST be moved toward YOUR particular perspective. You MUST always maintain controlled emotion, and pure conviction at ALL times, and maintain mastery. :)

I had many fears like fear of public speaking,fear of dark, fear of new work, fear of death etc. So, I started researching how to overcome my fears. I have an iPhone with me and one day i typed "no fear" in app store and you know what? I got an app called "no fear"? by Lokesh Hanumappa. I downloaded and using it now. It is really quite cool as it helps me to? manage my fears really well. You know, I have already overcome my fear of new work. Thought of sharing as a Technological help for all.

Why is she so upset? It looks like she's been to many Mafia public speaking events. The only speakers who hide behind a tree are those avoiding being seen by police who suddenly walk in. Same thing - only Mafia bosses lean and hold on to the podium and say "YOu talkin to me?" and same thing with nervous pacing - - and smoking a cigarette - - planning their next hit.

I'm displeased. My step-brother sleeps in the neighboring room and he just lately became excellent at getting gals. He went to the Master Attraction web page (Lookup in Google) by Jake Ayres. God. I'm envious due to my pal. He's been available for life. By a fluke, he's got a model to deeply love him in no time. How is that actually manageable? I don't want to HIDE myself behind a podium...because I was to SHOW myself to all......When I deliver presentatons I use the rest of the space........ When I delivered a presentaion in the State Bank of Pakistan I didn't use the pdium....There were a table for exetives next to that..so I had to come down the 2 feet high platform

I am not sure if leaning comfortably on the podium is a bad thing - yes, if you camp there for the entire speech, it is... but if you go around and back to the podium and lean, it shows some authority over the audience, as if "I can lean on the podium and this stage is mine".

Thank you so much! I love to do public speaking and have won a few awards but it was through the same program and the rules didn't allow hand motions so the one I will be giving now does allow them and I wasn't sure on what to do, thank you so much big help!

With all due respect: the proper term is not "podium" (from the Latin: pod, meaning foot). A podium is what a speaker stands on. A lectern is what speakers sometimes drape their body over. Otherwise, a nice presentation.

i have LOADS of trouble with public speaking. My dad tolled me that in high school he was SO nervous he actualy wore HUGE!! (I MEAN HUGE!!!!) fake, really ugly mulit colored glasses to get some of the pressure off :)

I believe the table or piece of furniture that holds your papers during a speech is called a lectern not a podium. The podium, I believe, is the platform or the space your standing to give the speech.
