DIY CO2 Reactor for Aquariums
justaz.com productions, with just az aquatics, shows you how to make your own DIY CO2 reactor for your aquarium. With a few basic, inexpensive materials, you ...
just some follow up thoughts. can you make it bigger say 5 gal bucket. use more sugar and less yeast. would it last longer? then adjust the amounts of yeast to determine how much is produced at a time.
+Chaos2611 If you're referring to the reactor in the video, we used a basic formula for the reactor, and didn't tweak any further. If your CO2 reactor is releasing to quickly, adjust the amount of yeast. Best of luck to you in all your projects.
Thanks for the tutorial! Really learnt alot. I just wanted to ask about the
valve gadget thing you inserted (to prevent the water going back up the
tube). What's that called?
+Nancy Wan That is called check valve, available at local fish supply store or just google: aquarium check valve. It's an inexpensive device but invaluable in the set up. Thanks for your great question and best of luck to you.
Ive followed these instructions many times and wasted lots of sugar/yeast
attempting this. I use 2 cups ginger evans granulated sugar and 1/4-1/2
teaspoon fleishmans yeast in a 1.5 liter bottle with warm water and
airtight cap. the reaction always dies. Ive also heard that you start with
hot water half way with sugar, shake, then add cold water. Ive gotten lucky
once or twice and its mostly just frustrating now. I normally fill the
bottle before adding the yeast mixture... Is this what I'm doing wrong ?
+ted mills Without actually seeing the process it's hard for us to determine the exact problem. Check the expiration date on the yeast. Once yeast expires, it will only 'bubble' briefly and then die out. The water may be either too hot or not warm enough. Too hot kills and not hot enough doesn't activate the yeast. It should feel hot on your finger but not so hot you pull your finger away. Check the lines for pinpoint holes; this can be a problem. Wish we could tell you exactly what's wrong, but at least this checklist might help.
Rigid tubing does seem to work best, but the important part is to ensure there are not leaks, that the tubing is well sealed. Let us know if the siphon tubing works for this project.
You should be able to find tubing at your local home improvement store. You want tubing small enough to put through the bottle caps, and still be able to allow for flow. So maybe quarter inch?
+Ad Leonard Excellent! Let us know how it works out.
