Bypass filters seem to be making a comeback. Some like the Frantz and the Motor Guard use a roll of toilet paper as the filter media. Maybe 60000 miles on this ...
Damn your straight retarded, I've never seen or heard of this and I'm in
the auto industry. We would just laugh at your cheap, idiotic ass. Just
because the car hasn't stopped running doesn't mean your not causing harm
dummy.
+sk8punk318 Engine oil analysis proves the Frantz cleans oil better than a pleated paper element and if changed as recommended, sludge and or oil breakdown is not an issue.. Back in the 1980's, the FAA approved the Frantz for aircraft use. The military even uses a larger type of toilet paper filter on their equipment. If you're in the auto industry, pull your head out of the sand because they have been around for the last 60 years.
it's not always about sludge and debris, the oil ur using and any oil in
fact will break down over time and not lubricate parts as well causing
premature wear on the internals. Doesn't matter to me though cuz it's a POS
car and obviously your toilet paper oil filter is the latest and greatest
thing even though I imagine the hot ass oil slowly tearing small threads
off the roll and clogging the channels up. Thumbs down
+David G I've got a "Luberfiner", a bypass filter you still see on diesels, you can see it in a couple videos, but it must hold a couple gallons of oil itself. I would like to try the Pacific Coast filter, it uses a paper towel roll instead of toilet paper, on my GMC 396, just need time.
+David G Engine oil analysis proves the Frantz is by far superior in performance to any commercial pleated paper elements regardless of size. The Frantz has been approved for aircraft use by the FAA for the last 35 years.
+David G I have been using the Frantz oil filter on my vehicles for 49 years and have never had any problems with contamination, oil wearing out, additives wearing out, or paper particles floating around in the engine. I have one vehicle I purchased in 1968 that I still own that has always had a Frantz on it. I’ve NEVER drained the oil in it in all these years. Anyone in doubt, install a Frantz or other brand tp filter, then send in an oil sample to a lab for an oil analysis. You will see they work very efficiently. Some facts....The Frantz oil filter is approved for aircraft use by the FAA.Toilet paper oil filters are used by the military, oil companies, & over the road trucks. In these heavy duty applications, the larger diameter commercial rolls of toilet paper are usually used. There is an over the road tractor featured on YouTube that used a toilet paper oil filter that did not have it’s oil changed for 1 million miles. The engine was then disassembled and all clearances were miked, engine was reassembled using the old original parts, old oil was reinstalled and the last I heard, the truck was headed for it’s second million miles.Naysayers, do some research before spouting negative opinions.
See my other video on the oil filter screen, checked on the engine I'm running now at 20K miles. Near zero debris and sludge. The combination of a full-flow and the toilet paper bypass filter, on an engine with NO filter from the factory, has made changing the oil unnecessary in my experience. If I were getting sludge build-up, that would be different.
