Vlog #28 - Landscape Painting Demo | Overcast Scene
I do part of a painting for you of an overcast landscape scene from a photograph I took on a walk near my apartment complex. Enjoy! More VLOGS: ...
Just wondering if oils will bring a better price on etsy than the acrylics
have, this is assuming you have sold enough for a comparison. I've heard
(but have no evidence or confirmation) that oils have more value than
acrylic. If this is true then watercolor would be cheaper still and you
could have folks giving away pen and ink & just paying people to take a
pencil drawing. Is the value of the art in the medium or the work itself?
+steamyb2 Excellent point you bring up. I remember hearing years ago that oils have more value than acrylics and I never understood why. I think one reason could be that oils have been around longer, so we know that in the long run, they will last long when compared to acrylics - we don't have the evidence of time to prove they will last as long. But in the end, I think the value lies with the work and the artist and not the medium. A watercolor by Sargent or another valued artist will be valued more than an oil by a different artist.
Thanks! Check out my art on Facebook at www.facebook.com/starvingartistofct21 I am currently exploring both oils and acrylics, not sure which I prefer, they both have excellent properties
I just took an oil painting class last summer and they are in a way easier
to me than acrylic. But the elements of art are always the same and many
techniques as well. oils just don't dry fast and that can be a good thing.
Hello. Interesting video. I am interested in seeing your video about the
transition from acrylic to oil. I use regular drying acrylic paint. They
dry really fast and then layering on top of them is easy. For example if I
painted a blue area, it will dry really fast and then I can add yellow on
top without it mixing into the blue and creating green. Since oil paint
dries so slowly, how much harder is layering? Is it much harder to control
the process, where you could add a yellow on top of blue without it mixing
into a green for example? I am interested in trying out oils but I haven't
gotten around to it yet. But I have wondered, how much harder is it to
layer paint with oil paint?
Yeah, it does seem like layering without mixing tones must be easier to do with acrylic paint given how fast they dry. I guess layering with oils just requires a more careful technique, and it's not like with acrylic where you can just layer paint over and over really quickly and not mix the tones together. I sometimes watch Bob Ross videos, and he seemed to have a really efficient technique of layering oil paint without everything mixing together. But like you said, he only seemed to use about 2 or 3 layers in a careful and methodical sequence. Are you a fan of Bob Ross at all?
+Bob B. I know exactly what you mean, I used to enjoy layering and such as well with acrylics and if that's how you paint and it works for you, keep doing it! :) Many folks layer with oils but I don't think they will dry as fast as acrylics and you have to worry about the whole "fat over lean" principle etc, in other words, acrylics are easier in that regard. With oils, I don't tend to layer as much at all.. 2 maybe 3 layers in the entire painting. It's more of a direct painting technique I go for.
I like the videos where you paint and talk about what & why you're mixing &
painting, and talk about your overall strategy.
I would make better progress as a painter if I would paint more frequently
than once a quarter. It has something to do with a fear of starting!
PS. I have a lot of social media accounts too but don't post to them very
often because I don't do much either. Once I made a video of me doing
laundry. Now I just post the occasional photograph.
I love that poster thingy behind you "life is art, paint your dreams", I
feel the same way about recording, I have done every painting except oils
i'll prob learn it soon watching you makes me like it because it looks
somewhat realistic, and you would never lose me because I love your videos
it doesn't matter whats it about, its all pretty cool ;D, its always good
to have a day off even from driving that much, my mum has to travel for
work too, and brings us with her next time ;D, have a merry christmas
Hey Brandon. So good to see this video. Thanks for uploading videos where
you describe your journey and the ups and downs that you face. It's
beneficial to artists as most run into similar circumstances. I look
forward to your next video blog.
Or maybe something for next year. Like keeping an outdoor painting from each month and then compiling them for a calendar set for the next year. Might get some sales from that, I dunno. Just was thinking about it, u do you though sir!
This is an easier version of it. David Gilliland always has the Taco Bell
car, no one else. Dave Blaney and Tony Raines always had the A&W car, no
one else Travis Kvapil always drove the Long John Silver's car. Kevin
Conway always had the Extenze car, no other sponsor. So, the drivers always
keep their sponsor but switch #'s You got- 34 Tony Raines A&W, 37 Kvapil
