I thought silage-making in November was unusual but this beats it all. Good crop of grass lifted by contractor Ed. Fowler. Here we see them start a new field and ...
We cut silage for bales on 24 nov and we got it tested and it came very
good it was wet 16 dm but it was 80dmd and 16 protein so silage at that
time of year is ok and as well if that amount of grass left on ground over
winter would destroy the sward for next year good video
Nice video Alan,
Grass cut late like this wouldnt have much time to ferment would it not?
I'm not sure and I suppose it also depends on how long the farmer plans on
keeping the cattle in for yes?
But still great video Alan.
Thanks very much. I'm not aware of the farmer's intentions but he may feed it straight away, green, for all I know. But given the right conditions I don't see why it shouldn't make silage?
Brilliant as always Alan. Whilst most of us might debate the merits of
cutting silage that late in the year, from a video point of view "What's
rare is wonderful!"
Absolutely. Far as I am concerned there is no debate. The farmer wants it and is prepared to pay for it, so be it. With adequate additive it'll be Ok - why not?
