Thts brilliant Rob, we call tht finish; flush to the trowl where i train & mainly is for the back of the wall as the front would be weather struck in tht sense which i actually love to do & others hate but i find it quite easy, but i never knew the trick with the piece of wood, proper quality i'll try tht from now on

talk about uneven bricks, i had to take down and rebuild a garden wall with all the old bricks, was a nightmare but had a really good finish!

yes, slightly wider than the joint so as not to go deep, a flush joint needs to be taken a flat as possible from the 2 adjacent bricks

The joints are simply cut as the bricks are laid, no filling needed. Joints are just kept full and flushed with the stick.

My mix is 4:1:1/4 that is, 4 building sand, 1 OPC, a quarter lime (off the record, the new Hanson OPC is superb)
