Countdown to Prague 2: "Czech in a Nutshell (kind of)"
My bad! 1) It is indeed Charles IV even though I said 14th 2) Yes, Chamberlain was for appeasement, not Churchill who came in after Chambs was kicked out 3) ...
I'm saying a lot hehe, anyhow. A useful phrase is, and mind I only know how
to say it; ne-ne-n zah-tch. Which means 'no worries' or 'no trouble' which
is a good way of replying to a thank you. It's casual, comfortable and
people tend to be impressed by the czech =d Another useful phrase is
nevardi (neh-vard-yee) which is nevermind; I use it when I can't explain
what I'm trying to say. Dead useful for a non-czech speaker in Praha~ Most
people speak English anyway, but it's nice to try, yes?
@worldismarble Well if you look at the Dub Czech Springs, I'm of the
opinion that most people were not too happy =( I know my great-aunt wasn't
allowed to paint during the regime. Praha was the last central-european to
join the USSR, or one of the last anyhow. It was quite a political city,
and the rural folk didn't work with the Regime very well - that was how my
grandda stayed out of prison, because he could get the farmers on side =)
By the by, it's more like.... "The Communists drove the Germans out, but
they never left" to quote my grandfather. Ah, a nice thing to say is Na
shledanou, which has a literal meaning, something like... to see you again
soon. I tend to pronounce it as a big blur of a word Nah (short) - shleh -
dahn (longer) - no~ ^o^ I'm glad to see someone taking an interest in its
history -cheer-
Oh my goodness all those books behind you! (I was pausing your videos to
read the titles of them...and oh dear, so much reading. @_@). And sorry I
couldn't give you historical information like King Charles the XIV and his
Praha but alas, you taught me something as well! Privyet, myenya zovut
Tihmily2007! Kak dyela? (Hello, my name is Tihmily2007 - how are you?)
Oh, and as I was watching this video, I realised I kinda know a lot about
European history. (which is good, because I live in Europe, but it's just
reassuring to hear you tell about it, for some reason that I find hard to
formulate because it keeps sounding kinda racist in my head. But yaaayyy :D)
My Mother comes from the Czech Republic =3 Ahoj back at 'cha~ And go to
Charles Bridge, it was made using egg yolks as part of the stuff holding
the bricks together. Plus it has so many artisans on it. Another thing to
check out is the palace on the hill - there's a mirror maze up there~!
@BMarce Yeah, when I read "Red Army liberation" I wasn't sure how the
takeover was received. Did they see themselves as a SU satellite country or
did they embrace some sort of identity after becoming absorbed into a
communist regime? Maybe both? Oof...
@gentrifly wait, did I say million? I have trouble conceptualizing
quantities in my head. But you're right, it is billion! I guess searching
for a US state equivalent messed up the estimation. I shall remedy this
mistake!
@Tihmily2007 hahaha!!! The books behind me aren't mine, though I've read
parts of Primate Vision at its owners behest! Is that Russian at the end?
Also, I def will still follow sports in Prague : )
omg this is so awesome, i went to check your page, cause i saw your amazing
singing on some other video and the first thing i see is this! i live in
prague, so this is so cute from you, haha :3
@Musicluvr2476 Nope. A traditional hello is Dobry Den, which is Good Day,
and good bye is Na Shledanou. However, the slang for hello/goodbye is Ahoj,
which is just like waving at someone =D
