Iowa Tornadoes from October 4, 2013
Our intercept (we ran an on call tour!) of the Sloan and Climbing Hill, Iowa EF4 tornado. This beast grew to a 1.5 mile wide wedge as it tore up the countryside.
This was one of the most interesting October outbreaks I know of. Though
according to the NWS, the Sloan tornado was the same one that hit Macy and
was an EF2. The Climbing Hill tornado was a separate EF4.

Violent EF4 Tornado West Iowa October 4, 2013
Sorry about the shaky video. Witnessed around 5-6 tornadoes today, some towns we were near were Lyons, Nebraska, Sloan Iowa, and the house damage was ...
Thanks for the suggestions! I use a tripod whenever possible like in the
very beginning of the video but in the car shots and in very high tension
situations you just don't have time to use one! I am going to be investing
in a stabilizer rig to get smother shots!! Once again thanks for the
suggestions -Max Olson
Yeah, God Bless ol' Roger.....I think sometimes he does a little "selling"
at times with his paying clients. It's probably just good business to do it
a little bit now and again. But it could be just his enthusiasm, which is
pretty stout most of the time.
I recognized Roger Hill's voice, but this couldn't have been an actual
paying tour this late in the year, was it? Or perhaps it was a
quickly-thrown-together gig?
it's about to touch down! He. could. go. all. the . way!
2013 Storm Chasing in Review
All of my more significant storm chases during the 2013 year. Events include the April 8-9 moderate risk, April 17-18 severe weather and flooding, May 19-20 ...
The 2001SRN, 2001DC, and 2001AC used a belt driven rotator like the
Thunderbolt which required a larger rectangular rotator box. The 2001SRNB
and the 2001-130 are gear driven and don't require the larger box so
they're more square. Also, the 2001SRN used a smaller box on the back and
was slightly higher pitched than the 2001DC or AC.
@TheFiremansavage I appreciate the explanation. Actually the difference
between the two is the rotator mechanism and housing. The SRN has the
Thunderbolt-style rectangular rotator housing for it's belt driven rotator
while the SRNB rotator housing is more like an even sided cube housing a
direct gear driven rotator.
same here except Kansas City has been 2001 only since '91 after the
thunderbolt at downtown airport was hit by a plane during the '91 air show.
Within a month a 2001 was already screaming away like fingernails on a
blackboard. lol
