Wategate is located in exhaust chamber of turbo or it can be external in exhaust maniflold... it makes big banging noise if outlet is straight out to air... in a diesel car it makes loud roaring sound... dump valve/bow/bypass valves make a big buzz sound... then there is phenomenom called turbo stall/surge that is this fluttering sound when air gets to back to out from compressor chamber while comperssor wheel is spinning against it...
