Ato Van-Ess (4), Chairman, Sekondi-Takoradi Regional Chamber of Commerce & Industry
David talks to Ato Van-Ess, Chairman, Sekondi-Takoradi Regional Chamber of Commerce & Industry, about how Ghana's small and medium size companies ...
These people have no idea where to start. You must teach them basic
bookkeeping., business standards has to be learned. make it mandatory that
they be taught a class or 2 of the basics. What bank will talk to these
people and trust giving them large amounts of money. People must prove
themselves to the bank to be responsible, professional business people. Make
basic classes for everyone. I have gotten angry with the chairman. I
apologize for calling him names. I just think he should look at the
condition and put even small programs in place to educated small business
people. Then bring in regulations. That's just my take on it. Takoradi
would be the vacation spot and the business capital of the world if this is
done consistantly. That's just what I think.
continued--- Banks would not mind giving loans. But this man thinks that
its personal to the bank. He would not loan money to a person that show no
sign of responsibility or determination to pay him back. The people of ghana
are still doing thire world business and want the benefits of banking that
has been created in part and in duplication of UK and US financial
structure. You are over small business . Make your people learn proper
business. The banks will trust them. banks do business. learn it
Why do you think it is good for Ghana to just go in debt in order to put
thousands more B and C class businesses in the country. Ghana needs
education. These people will not grow and change and learn new things. But
they want tth benefit from new systems put in place to refine business
conditons in Ghana. Its an economic embarrassment that the people of ghana
refuse to learn and come out of such Third World practices of business. The
hate change but they want the money of change from banks. grow
This man is in a fantasy. Banks in Ghana are very aware of the fact that
ghanians are not doing professional business. Ghanians don't even want to
give a receipt for sales or make a business license visible on the walls of
their business. Banks just don't give away money. Banks must know that your
business mentality is high enough to give a return. I don't think banks
don't want to give money. But the people have never dealt with credit. They
have a hard time even respecting an electricity bill
Why is he not more intelligent or innovative about putting togeher a new
application for the people. He seems to have a dead position. He wants to
be liked. But a person in his position who is head over the largest most
destructive and embarrassing dilemma in the country could never be liked by
everybody if he is helping the people. It will take tough love for Ghana.
This man seems to not see the horrible condition of Ghana businesses. Maybe
he just doesn't know what good business looks like.
