I enjoyed the video alot, and it is indeed not about the camera. (altough
there is a point you need to reach for decent results, wich pretty much any
dslr gives you now.) But i have to agree with bluehigh on the point that
you pulled everything out of the closet to make good images. I am sure you
can do a great job with a few foamboards in daylight together with a phone
so it would be realy cheap, but getting out the big lightmodifiers + stands
etc etc aint realy the way to say, you have no excu
It's saying, and I quote, "this isn't about having good camera equipment,
it's not about having good video equipment..." but the problem is that...
yes it is. It IS about having good equipment because they used great
lighting equipment to get the results they show. You say it's to encourage
people to get images in their everyday life but I don't know ANYONE who
carries around thousands of dollars worth of lighting equipment on a daily
basis or anyone who has an MUA on standby.
No, of course I don't carry around a $2000 3lb. camera. I do, however,
carry around a 3lb $6000 camera (weight is before adding the lens, of
course) in the D4. Sure, the best camera is the one you have with you, no
argument on that front. My argument is a bit different: bring the best
camera with you that you possibly can and skip the
requires-a-lot-of-great-lighting-to-make-a-great-image iPhone where it
belongs: at the Apple store. THINK man, THINK!
In order to capture high quality, professional looking imagery you
absolutely do need a dSLR OR expensive lighting equipment, that's my point.
You're not going to get fantastic results without at least one half of the
equation. For generic snapshots you certainly don't need anything more than
a phone but this video isn't about generic snapshots; it's about
professional quality imagery which you only get when you use professional
quality tools.
so you show us that we don't need to complain about not having fancy
equipment by setting up fancy equipment to compensate for having a phone
camera instead of something else?
also you ship your files off to a pro retoucher and then work in photoshop?
both not exactly budget solutions either..
it's a nice video to learn lighting though.
Photography is, by definition, the recording of light. So yes, lighting is
ultimately what makes the picture. Obviously other factors come into play,
but take a well composed shot of a good subject and pour flat, bad lighting
onto it and the whole shot is quickly ruined. Lighting is easily the most
"make or break" condition in photography.
You people are all idiots. You can replace the pro lighting with some cheap
continuous lighting at Home depot, ask your wife to help you for the make
up, or ask a make up student (they'll do it for free, it's their dream to
work with a photographer) and then find a model by searching on forums, or
Google.
Wow, you totally missed the point of my comment. This video proves nothing.
It CANNOT do what a professional camera can. Shallow DoF? No. Good images
in bad light? No. Usable ergonomics? No. Dependable in all conditions? No.
And the list goes on. I like the idea of this video but it fails at its
purpose.
So to take amazing photos you only need: a professional model, a
professional makeup artist, a professional hairstylist, a professional
studio (with backgrounds, beauty dishes …), a professional image editor,
and a camera (it can be the camera of an iphone)……. piece of cake…everybody
has these
theres a difference between doing photography as a hobby or doing it
professionally..... of course if you do photos for fun you can use any
cameras really, in fact, you can use any camera as a pro too, but it all
comes down to lighting. as long as you control the light, you control the
art
Every time I need motivation I watch this video, I have seen it for at
least 10 times in the last year and I just noticed something, the
photoshoot took place in a garage!!. I felt bad because I was doing exactly
the same but not anymore I am not the only one. Thanks Lee for these videos!
pretty nice work! funny all the butthurt photogs complaining about retouch
and lighting. most of the glam work i've seen has been mostly retouched.
Olivia Price on the other hand is ethereally beautiful and seems to have
real grace. Too bad she didnt get any more work out of this !
I am surprised that most of the people visiting FS have photography
background and stil fail to grasp one simple concept. As the the word
itself photography implies drawing with light. Its about lighting people
has nothing to to with effort or camera. You guys disappoint me. ;P
thats like saying you can drink water from a beer glass and also a normal
water glass...... a camera is a camera, if you knew photography,
photography is ALL *ALL* about light, and as demonstrated in this video,
this guy used $5,000 + worth of light gear and modifiers.
the lighting isn't the most important aspect. you have other factors to
consider. and i think you'll find you don't need a professional model
either. i have became successful without paying 1 model and i dont have a
studio either. stop moaning ffs. you, "photographers"
Seriously don't you think, that thats obvious, that you can use even a
calculator to make photos and, yeah, it will work, becouse photography IS
ABOUT THE LIGHT? And in this video we have the light... for few thousands
grands!
I think the moral of the video was, that even if you buy $5000 camera and
will that photos in the bathroom, they still be crap. It's not about on
what camera you have, it's about what effort you are putting in the
picture.
lets be honest, considering all that lighing setup and post production, the
pictures are average at best.. iphone is just terrible to shoot photos this
is a joke.. morons here (those making comments)are kidding themselves
Okay... call me a douche, but he MOST DEFINITELY wasn't using "crappy" low
end equipment. High end lighting, high end retouching (not even done
himself), professional model, professional stylist... Ugh....
Y is everyone moaning? Grow up i think weve established the fact that most
of u want "proffesional" lighting you can use natural light you know ^^
regardless i loved the video thanx for posting :)
