L.A. City Football Championship Taft vs Birmingham_2002
Favored Woodland Hills Taft is defeated by Birmingham of Lake Balboa 35-7 \ L.A. City title 2002. Taft had won all previous games (13) by an average of 24pts.
In 2002 I saw Pollard, who was Taft's defensive coordinator under Starr,
put a stop to some very good team's strategy...had shutout after
shutout....BHam lost 30-6 to Taft that year, then got back at them in the
City final and demolished them...what I'm trying to say is I thought Coach
Pollard was a really good coach...saw him after hours, off season in wt. rm
many times...anyway, he IS a good coach...bet he bumped up against some
administration power trippers.
They all took responsibility for the loss. Facts are former coach Star is
1-6 in City Championship games and was always favored,,,they defeated BHam
30-6 @ BHam w/out their star wide receiver thanks to Star's complaint to
the board and..Taft was heavily favored. His action pumped up the BHam
squad led by Dennis Keyes. Taft coach and administration chose to take a
cheap shot and cost a kid his final game, if not a ring...it backfired.
How can you lose that badly with an All-American like Steve on your team?
1-6? I heard of that, and after he left Exavier Johnson (trans. to B-Ham)
said he might have stayed if he knew Starr was leaving. Shit, Pollard
should be their coach now, he's the one the players love. Not that other
dude. And what Starr did with Ward was disgraceful, it's so suprise karma
bit his ass. Great vid SidelineVideo, please come to Granada Hills.
We were now working for Bham @ Taft game 10.21.05 Starr /Thomas told police
to eject us...we asked why and began taping their response ("Turn off the
camera""Admin said kick you out"), they took us down violently, faceplant,
forced our arms behind, handcuffed, injured, humiliated in front of Bham
stands, Taft friends, ripped biceps, torn rotators, hernia, then arrested
on ridiculous charges(charges dropped).
taft always fucks up in a championship when steve on the team they say he
had the best offensive line milton knox that is a bad ass offensive line.
steve was good but back then he had competetion too wit another guy that
had more potential than steve im not hating or anything i think the best WR
in 2001 was Ramon Perry. Ramon is stupid bad grades and shit what ever
happened to ramon??
Yup...that Benny Ward thing was his undoing...chickenshit move got him what
he got...another loss @ City. Did you hear what he did to us @ the Taft
game in 2005? We currently have a lawsuit naming Starr, principal Sharon
Thomas and various John Doe's. BTW, Sean Pollard is a very smart
coach...way underrated. See ya at GH game.
we shot every game that yr...yes, tough one since he was favored...karma 4
his pwr trip, getting benny ward kicked out...pumped up Birmingham...starr
quit after this defeat...this yr jus' as hard...? he sure looked psycho
pissed...cant seem 2 win w/ big one even w/ great players...esp. against ed
croson.
Coach K got his first win (as head coach) over Bham and showed lots of
class, as did the players, after the win. Whole new vibe @ T-House...new
coach is difference...wow...still pick Bham or Taft to win it all, but
Narbonne seededb#1...we'll see...west Vallery rules.
Also, Starr called a bad game (ask his asst coaches), like Crenshaw two
years ago. Taft had six or seven D1 players (inl Steve Smith/USC?NY
Giants). BHam coach Ed Croson's had his # all the way because he called the
same plays in certain situations all the time.
err i go to taft hs (im going to my junior year) and saw a couple of the
comments: who was arrested? what did starr do? y did principal thomas have
people arrested? i just want anwers cuz im so curious now :P ..... T-House!
Good Luck to this years (2008) Taft and Birmingham teams in playoffs. Taft
held off Locke and Birmingham avenged earlier loss to Garfield in first
round of L.A. City playoffs. Will they meet at the "Ship" once again??
You didn't lose it, your coach did...plus, you lost a couple of crucial
turnovers. Also, Croson has Starr's number because Starr uses same plays
and offensive scheme every year. Contact me for copy of game on DVD.
#4 We murdered this day. We knew EVERYONE doubted us. We had something to
show and prove. AND NOW THE CHAMPIONSHIP RING keeps these glorious memories
alive. :) #classof2004 #cityChamps
That's when H.S football was the shit. NOwadays these H.S players are
small. See how big they were back then..and athleticly better. Oh yea.. ECR
aint shit, they never were and never will!
If the Ducks had had a target on the field like him, 1st and 10 on the
eighteen with 20 seconds left, the outcome of the USC game might have been
different. Dale Newton, Eugene Oregon.
