Most of those Soviet-built schools, roads, airports & hospitals were destroyed by the taliban in the 1990s.They were later rebuilt by NATO aid.

+armourdaddy805Im not sad at all. I am proud of what we, the US, has done in Afghanistan. They are doing things as free people that they never could have done under the Taliban. So the expense was fine. Nato can afford it. I love my home too and I know how lucky I am to have been born a US citizen. We in the west are blessed to be of western nations. Its like winning the lottery. To be born in Somalia or that region is a very hard life and a meek existence. At least half of the world is the same. Even china with its huge economy has 1 billion people living like 3rd world poor. The middle class is around 200 million and thats 1/6 of the population.

The Russians education plan for Afghanistan failed as much as their military success. ISAF and the UN has provided a lot to Afghans, but it is still a dirt poor rural country. That won't change in 14 years.
