+winston silva Thank you for your question.  There are many offshoots of Christian Science, and we can't profess to know them all. But Christian Science is based on Mary Baker Eddy's research and studies of healing prayer, and subsequent writings based on the Bible.  Her thinking was unique and her accomplishments astounding, especially in her time.  More information can be found here;//christianscience.com/what-is-christian-science/mary-baker-eddy-discoverer-founder-author

I have one problem with this lecture. Suicide is not a selfish act. When a person is suicidal, truly suicidal, they are not rational. Not capable of reasoning. They are having a psychotic break.

A person in a psychotic state is not capable of choosing their thoughts and cannot be called selfish. They are beyond that point. There is a big difference between having thoughts of suicide and actually being prepared to do it. While I can sympathise with Leida (I have experienced the same things) the fact that she was able to select thoughts and make a choice suggests she was not psychotic. I'm sorry but having suicidal thoughts does not make you an expert on psychosis.

You are still using the word selfish. It is simply not appropriate.

+Helen Moreton We appreciate you taking the time to comment, and for watching this lecture.  It cannot be refuted that there seems to be a breakdown, a "psychotic break" when a suicide occurs. But every time there is sickness, lack or in-harmony of any kind it all stems from the belief of a "breakdown" of some sort. It is always the result of believing that somehow you are separated from God, but we learn in Christian Science that God is Love, and we can never be separate from God's love and power and presence.Christian Science believes there is one Mind, (capitalized because it stands for God). We believe this Mind is our mind because we are made in the image of God, as stated in Genesis 1.Leida was not condemning those who attempt to commit suicide or succeed in committing it. She was merely suggesting that suicidal thoughts are not thoughts from God, Mind because they are not thoughts that consider anyone but ourself and "our problems". We have to think outside of ourselves and become God-conscious, which would include others in our thinking. This is not impossible when suicidal thoughts come to mind.  Turning to God and knowing we are made in the image of Love gives us the ability to think clearly and recognize that suicidal thoughts are selfish suggestions that are not "our" thoughts, but suggestions that tempt us to believe we can solve our problems by ending our life and not considering the grief we are causing those around us.Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer of Christian Science says in her textbook, Science and Health, that "The time for thinkers has come." She continues, "Ignorance of God is no longer the steppingstone to faith. The only guarantee of obedience is a right apprehension of Him to know aright is Life eternal."Christian Science provides answers to such aggressive suggestions as suicide. It never condemns. "The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is love." (Science and Health p. 113)Christian Science takes the problem out of the medical, matter based theories and puts all under God's government of Love, Truth, Life and Mind. This has proved to be a practical, provable method of healing for well over 125 years.
