What on earth are these guys doing? Running with your arm up holding the
foul? Not signaling the infraction at the spot. Saying I got, or we got
gold 22??? On the arm??? WOW. These mechanics are horrible. Pointing the
throw in spot with an open hand???
+portscan69 I tend to agree with you although you can communicate to your partner the spot and color of the team entitled to the throw in or signal two free throws without giving a preliminary signal as to the type of foul. I have worked for two different associations and they handled these situations very differently. Each has its pros and cons and yes, I realize not giving preliminary signals goes against the manual. Anyway, hopefully these officials clean up some of their mechanics and communication as they gain more experience, but if they are first year officials, I have seen far worse.
+Tony C also, preliminary mechanics tell your partner(s) what you have and if we are shooting or designating a throw in spot. Nothing worse than a foul or violation being called and your not knowing if there's shots or where the throw in spot is.
+portscan69 Some associations do not want officials making preliminary signals at the spot of the foul, outside of the closed fist (unless it's a close block/charge play). You probably shouldn't throw out statements like that without knowing which association they work for or how long they have been officiating. These guys obviously look like first year or second year officials at best. It sounds like you know your stuff but I'm sure you made many of the same mistakes these guys are making in your first year.
+portscan69 Horrible mechanics compared to what? A 1 year Official or a 30 year seasoned Official? I suspect based on the level of this game, these men are newer Officials. So based on a 1 or 2 year Official, not bad at all. yes, a bunch of polishing to do, but to throw a blanket statement out there without knowing who or how long these Officials have been in the game is foolish.
this is insane.... so all the times the referee will rule the basketball
court??? im a referee also but i think this insanity will brake all the
players and make deft and blind or make a player plays like a robots
hahhahah.... insanity with this officials... fuck!!!
So U say that refrees give techical fouls 100000 times a match.
This is nature of basketball nature of Human.
First they have to warn player
2) Real Madrid Oly and Pana players have to get 5 or 6 technical fouls
every game but what can u do dirty jobs out there :)
on 6.19, that's not a faul, it's a small touching compared to the position
of the opponent (in dis-balance) and not been able to rebound at all.
Turkish player is right to protest.....

bullshit... i know the rules are like that on the paper, but just take a
look at reality, people!... Just check out any NBA center doing post moves:
Griffin, Ibaka, Gasol, Howard, you name it... as soon as the offer their
nice asses to the defender: BOOM either hand check or forearm check and
absolutely no call. People do that all the time because real referees dont
make a call... never.. ever. Unless you're grabbing or pushing!!!. In other
words, if the defender impedes the offensive player's side or go-around
movement (because going backwards while posting requires contact with the
defender anyway). So if you ask me i tell you i see many pussies in this
vid, both on the screen and in the comments below... I've been playing
baskebal since I was a child (late 80s) until today (--2009) and I've been
always doing hand and forearm checks, and no referee has ever call a foul
on me because of that...never. .. Basketball is not for pussies and
floppers... some people should only play with their parents so they can
call any foul ..LOL. Cheers!, and keep it real.
+Alberto González Bollaín from //www.nba.com/features/misunderstoodrules_051128.html - Hand Checking: A defender may not place and keep his hand on an opponent unless he is in the area near the basket with his back to the basket. A defender may momentarily touch an opponent with his hand anywhere on the court as long as it does not affect the opponent’s movement (speed, quickness, balance, rhythm).

As 15 people have stated, you can be moving and take a charge as long as
legal guarding position was established. Rule of thumb for a charge is
chest to chest. Shoulder to shoulder is a block. Also, you do not need to
point the direction you're going. A player control foul is offensive, so we
know it's going the opposite direction. The referee in this video stated a
charge would be running the defender over or running them over after a
pass. First part is correct, second is wrong. If the player controlling the
ball passes, then runs a defender over, it is a team control foul, not a
player control. The proper mechanic for that would be closed fist to stop
the clock, signal a push foul, then a punch for team control signal.
It's a myth that you must be "set" to take a charge. Yes, you have to start
with two feet on the floor and facing your opponent. That's legal guarding
position. Once legal guarding position is established, though, you CAN move
laterally or obliquely to draw a charge. You can even jump straight up,
because you're allowed to guard your spot from the floor to the ceiling.
Being "set" doesn't hurt, but it's not a requirement.
Horrible explanation that is based on the old myth that the defensive
player needs to have his feet set. In reality, the defensive player needs
to establish legal defensive position only. It is absolutely irrelevent if
his feet are moving, if he is in the air or not. It all revolves around
legal or illegal defensive position.
Please do your homework before uploading crap videos like this....
Spot on. It's a myth that you have to be "set". Such bad practice. As long
as you're in your legal guarding position, you can move backwards or even
laterally (as long as contact occurs not as a result of your lateral
movement) Easy.
Where did they get this little league ref? His explanation couldn't be
more incorrect. Your feet can be moving as a defender if you have
established legal guarding position and have maintained it.
The call is correct. It is a player control foul because a charge is under
that kind of foul, so you can call it either way - as a player control foul
or as a charge.
