To put it bluntly, the .5 volumes having side characters on them don't mean shit; and if you think they actually have any meaning then you're frankly a retard. Yes Iroha is a side character, but only because of the obvious fact that anybody not part of the main trio are side characters (which is, once again, fucking obvious). The key point here is their relevance. Sensei, who is on volume 9, is a side character. However she is an integral part of the story, and if you take her out of it there wouldn't even be a story in the first place. Haruno, who is on volume 10, is a side character. However she is a core part of Yukino's character, she is both an antagonist and a creator of conflict for both the plot development and the character development. Without her Yukino would have no goal, she would have no conflict, and therefore she would have no character. On the other hand of things you have Saika, Zaimokuza, Saki (I'm sorry Sakifags, it's just a fact by this point), and (debatably) Miura. Who are not only side characters, but largely irrelevant side character. They serve minimal purposes, some more than others but they are similar in the fact that you can remove them completely from the roster and the story would remain largely unchanged. Iroha on the other hand, while a side character, plays a major role in the events regarding the club in volume 8 and 9. Her interactions with 8man, and his experience during her request was an integral part of his development; making him realize that the club was important to him. While she is a side character, she is not irrelevant. You cannot simply remove Iroha from the story, because doing so would be removing a great deal of the main character's own development. In layman's terms, what I'm saying is go fuck yourself.
