Yes, MCP's was indeed a musical band, with the ultra-talented Don Redman
and Benny Carter being its most famous alumni; one of my favorites, this
crew. Redman's generally spoken vocals have always been a source of
fascination for me; that unusual delivery of his, though a modest talent in
comparison with his amazing innovations as arranger, was very persuasive:
The final line, "I'm cemetary-bound" has always gotten me.

The lyric certainly matches the tragic and dirge-like tempo... hardly a fox-trot. I wonder if that's the reason it was not released in 1930?
