I think they should install Stopper IIs over the pull stations at UAlbany.
They have them over the pulls at certain buildings at my college, mainly
the ones that still have the old Simplex T-bars intact. However last
summer, when they replaced the old Simplex horn/lights with new SAE
horn/strobes in one zone, they also removed a Stopper II from one of the
pulls. And when they replaced the old pulls in the swimming pool last
winter break, they put new Stopper IIs over the new Faraday Chevrons
Hi. The main panel is a Simplex 4100. What I showed was indeed a remote
panel. Remote panels and annunciators are very similiar, infact, they're
almost the same thing. A remote panel is basically another panel interface
at a different location. That still gives you control of all the system
functions. On the other hand, an annunciator is like a mini-panel except
it's features are limited to basic functions (acknowledge, silence, and
reset) and perhaps a couple of selectable options.
I know that's the default voice message for Simplex 4100, 4120 and 4100U
systems. In fact, I've been told that two of the buildings at Bridgewater
State College (East Campus Commons, has a Simplex 4120 system with 4903
speaker/strobes; Kelly Gymnasium, has a Simplex 4100U InfoAlarm system with
TrueAlert speaker/strobes) do that same voice message too
FUnny, my boss called the system new as well, but no, this system has been
installed since 2001. The bells you see in my vids are from the campus
center addition, which was added in 1994. When they upgraded the Podium in
2001, the main part of the building got upgraded to voice evac (which is
what you see here) and the extension remained untouched.
Ah. I told my old high school principal that they should install Stopper
IIs over their pulls (Edwards 270-SPOs) since they are also prone to false
alarms. She thought it was a great idea, and they'll do it once they get
the money
It was. When I enter the lobby you can hear it buzzing (thus it being
unacknowledged), but just before I reach the door, it stops (thus, being
acknowledged). So, when I view the panel, you see it acknowledged and not
silenced.
We're generally not prone to false alarms, although there was a big string
of them at the library this past semester. The campus police tell us the
pulls have ink in them, but I don't believe them.
Appreciate the report that validates anecdotal feedback and observations.
Much work left to do, but a good foundation on which to move forward.
Looking forward to diving into the data more closely and using it to
advance the interfraternal experience where applicable.
It was so great attending the results of the study this morning and being
able to get some feedback from the panel! These findings pave a great
future for all Greek organizations and further emphasize what being part of
these organizations can do for your future!
@DigiTan000 That's assuming that the contractors go for the voice evac
option digi but you are referring to the ATTENTION! ATTENTION! ATTENTION!
An emergency has been reported. All occupants walk to the nearest stairway
exit and walk down to your assigned re-entry floor or main lobby. DO NOT
USE THE ELEVATOR! Walk to the nearest stairway. DO NOT USE THE ELEVATOR!
Walk to the nearest stairway." message right?

@DigiTan000 What the other poster was saying was that there are panels that
can do voice but if the contractors don't select the option then it doesn't
do it. The EST 2 and 3 and The Simplex 4100 series all have the capability
of doing voice but they can also run horns.
@owenhinton At first I thought it was some type of speaker strobe the way
it sounds. Since most of them do have a siren style sound to them. And some
they can disable the sound and announce over the fire alarms with a
microphone hooked into the system.
shut up fire alarm im trying to listen to the speech! dumb fire alarm why
cant you sound on yor own time not during something important god! why
there have to be so many stupid fire alarms going off at random times god i
hate them!
Coverdillem, modern fire alarms are quieter to avoid the shock and panic
from the ear-splitting variety. In fact, the new Simplex systems give you
vocal instructions on how to (and how not to) exit.
You're saying that even though voice is an option, the option is in some
systems, and those systems are new...I can't say new systems have voice?
That's really worth reviving after 2 years? :P
