"galvanized Aluminium"? that sounds odd to me, and a quick google doesn't
come up with anything all that promising. Zinc is more reactive than Al,
especially anodized Al.
I'd very much appreciate someone pointing me in the direction of an article
on Galv Al, and why anyone would do that.
+Eye Toldyoosso This is the Lady MacBeth in the room, why has the government washed their ever so white and soft hands of a problem which they initiated?More importantly why and how are they getting away with it?
+Eye Toldyoosso Unfortunately this happens all too often when men and women serve their country. To the government you are just a number and once you are down or out they dont want to know because its easy to replace you with a new number .
Kevin nonchalantly says, "I brought a couple of carpenters". Norm and Tommy
represent two of the finest Master Carpenters I'm aware of. I really miss
"New Yankee".
I don't agree with war,and i really don't agree with the people that send
kids to war. Have watched this old house for 35 years, will never agree
with war.
+cam torrie I can agree with you,These soldiers are great people but I don't agree with war at all we all need to come together and find peace with each other.
Between interviews and visits to specialties stores there was less than two
minutes of the total 22:31 show of hammers hammering or screws screwing.
I'm a Vietnam veteran myself but I don't get it. When did the guys quit
building stuff? We got some walls last time and there's a hint of a table
next time but at over twenty minutes of NON-construction this isn't a
construction show anymore.
+PatrolOfficer161 ive been watching this show since i was 10 years old (1990)so i know what you mean. This old house is more of a personal/details orented show. each season is based on one project. ASK this old house is more like a how to do show. still a great show a bit for everyone
These walls are designed to have a gravel footer so they can maintain a
degree of flexibility. Normally you will not need concrete as the footer.
You will, however, need to be careful if you are building a raised patio
and you pour concrete as your patio. The wall and the patio will move
differently in frost situations so you want to keep them separate.
Thank you for viewing our video and asking for our feedback. The video is
showing removing the rear lip for the base course of block. This is being
done to ensure a full, even contact of the block with the gravel. This is
intended to make it easier to level the block and ensure a more stable
wall. Please contact us if you have further questions.
With a wall that low drainage is less critical. You should still plan to
backfill behind the block with a clean angular stone such as limestone or
granite. Unless the hill continues to climb dramatically behind the wall,
pressure should be minimal on your block - and you could use nearly any of
our systems for a wall under 18” tall.
Don't know if this is to late but go down the depth of your block plus an
extra few inches and level off your base with screening (fine gravel &
sand) level out your first row length and width and lay down your bottom
layer and stagger your joints and use PL premium to glue your blocks
together.
this video is really helpful - but i wan a very shallow wall - to stop
erosion into the street from a slightly sloped tree-lawn strip. I would
only need one stone's height above ground at the most. are these the best
bricks for that - or can you recommend something more appropriate?
These blocks would work well for your project, but you may want to consider
a cap to give it finished look. The design of the block allows for curves,
which is why they are tapered towards the back. This gives them a joint
between blocks – and the cap would hide this.
My along my driveway is about a 12-16 inches above the level of my drive
way. Building a wall like this along my driveway will I need to be
concerned about drainage? and with the wall only being 2 to 3 bricks high
should I be concerned about pressure on the wall?
I want to have just one line of retaining wall along wooden fence on three
sides because the soil along the fence is eroding which prevents grass from
growing as there is no soil contact. I want to lay sod for the inside of
the retaining wall. Can I do this?
it depends how tall your wall is going to be, usually is about 6 inches
below the ground for anything up to 2 feet, you need to level out the base,
throw some gravel and then, on top of the gravel, you need stone dust to
make it as flat as possible.
If the retaining wall is going to be the border of a raised patio, does it
need a concrete footer? The wall will be about 2 feet tall at its highest
point.
