Turbo Hydramatic 350 Transmission. This is Part-1 of a THM-350 on a Pontiac Trans Am. This video covers the disassemble part of this unit covring what is the ...
Hey, this is a nice video. I have a 78 k10 truck. it's 4wd and it's auto.
4spd. I've called all the local shops and asked around. Nobody really has
an answer for me, The truck starts and doesn't move. I'm aware there's a
million and a half things that could cause that, I've went over the norms,
the modulator, the governor, the fluid, the valve body etc. Checked to see
if the pump was working. checked to see if the fluid moved when it warmed
up. It did, Also. then after a couple weeks, It didn't and it also only had
about 3 quarts of fluid in the pan haha. I drained it and put it back in.
didn't change, after that. When I drained it the second time about 2
gallons of fluid came out? If you could give me a list of problems to help
me narrow stuff down I'd really appreciate it. I really have no clue what's
causing it. The kicker for me is it drove like a top for 5 years, then It
sat for a few years. Drove it to my house, then I moved and had it towed to
my house since I was halfway through making it driveable again. Now it does
like I said lol
+Timmy McConnell probably hard lip seals and O rings. Or just plain worn out. Have you watched part 2? It will answer most of your questions. And if you already have done everything that you mentioned, you can probably do the rebuild yourself. Part 2 will get you to know your transmission better.
I love all your tranmision videos. You are so thorough. I originally found
your channel looking for information on rebuilding a 4L60E and you even had
information on upgrading the transmission and adding a shift kit, which was
exactly what I needed. You are truly a master of your craft. Not enough
people in the world take the time to be as awesome as you are. Keep jamming
on the rebuilds.
+Eddie Martinez I've been very busy, as you probably already know, transmission repair is a very fast paced environment. But part 3 is coming...and some other stuff.
Hey Hiram, Thanks for sharing your videos buddy! You looks like you know
what are u doing pretty good!....
I would like to ask your opinion what can be wrong in my Toyota 1998 Prado
Transmission which the Overdrive is not working! I paid a fortune for a
mayor service and it came back still not working, The mechanic told me that
the Converter from now is Lock and the overdrive function is no longer
available!!! (When I drive 110kmh the RPM are too high 3500 rmp) any advice
how to address the issue? Thanks in advance!.... I really appreciated your
words.....
+jesromerg I've never heard of Prado, is there another name your Toyota goes by in another country? Sometimes the vehicles are the same in other countries but with a different name.
Hiram you need to apologize for absolutely nothing. Your expertise is
unquestioned. Anybody that lives in Houston that doesn't take his
transmission to you is a moron. Your videos are great and thanks for using
the orange gloves as this enables me to follow your hands which move so
fast that it's hard to keep up. Anybody that watches on of your videos
realizes that this is the real deal and not some faker. YOU DA MAN!!
@45:04 Theory of operation, SWEET. Definitely looking forward to that. I
know this should've made this comment yesterday, but I just got to that
part of the video. Having to watch this video in pieces due to time
constraints. And I can't vouch for anybody else, but I personally have been
a subscriber to your channel for a few years now.
@11:45 I know what you mean. People who ain't got a damn clue how it is in
the real world try to tell you how stuffs supposed to be done. It's kinda
funny cause those exact same people usually wind up asking you about how to
do stuff, at least that's how it was for me. What's real bad is that these
people vote.
+dmorley100 Yes, that's true. I still hope they can at least catch some of the tips I share to make their life a little easier. Even if they don't like me personally, they can still benefit from all the content I share.
+Hiram Gutierrez I wasn't talking about that specific person either. I was talking about how some of the people who graduate from these trade schools nowadays say things like you need to measure the clearance on this, or use a feeler gauge on that, and comment on how you should or shouldn't do something, and they graduate from these places thinking that they know everything and how everything is and they don't. Then they get a cold, hard dose of reality, and they ask you how to do just about everything cause suddenly they turned stupid.
I had to go back to that section of the video to see what you meant. I didn't mean anything negative about the person I mentioned there that went to work for a franchise transmission shop. You know, the one's you see their commercials on TV. Well, they require for you to do 10 a week. In a beginner's mind that's impossible to do. But with practice you can get there in about 6 months, I believe. The problem is that if you're not set up comfortable on your benches, you'll end up doing short cuts that will cause problems. In other words, the transmission will be just patched. To compensate for the demand that the service writer is expecting from you. And sometimes the service writer, or manager, didn't know that the transmission that he got a lot of money for a rebuild didn't get a full build because the tech didn't have the ability to keep up with the demand. I have relatives and friends that work at these places. So I know what they go through. I will not mention any company names but I bet you've seen some commercials on TV of some of them. Great places to work at, but you have to be able to put out what they require. So in my opinion for a beginner is to find a job at a local family owned and operated transmission shop. There he can pick up tricks and tips from them, then he can move on to a high demand type of environment.
