a pininfarina.......... fuiiiii
Well what you have to remember is he's 6 foot something, the moss gearbox
doesnt have a synchromesh for 1st gear, it had 3 tripple choke SU carbs,
and they were built on the cheap and thus had alot of problems.
as Jag wasnt making that much money on them, about 10 cents to every dollar
back then basically, banking on volume to make up for the 10% profit and
British leeland was so bad back then that cars made at certain factories
could be worse or better based on who made them. and Jags made pre 1965
before british leeland were better than the post ones, and this is one of
the post ones.
and its been about 50 years, 30 years since the 1980's so that was a 20
some year old car that wasnt worth anything, and the 308 has gone up in
price, considerably to the point where it was worth 2 testarossa's
and back then it had fix on fix on fix, and Hawaii is the other side of the
planet from england, so just try and find parts for it without the use of
the internet, not to mention anyone who can even work on that thing.
and also it looks stupid on him, like a giant clowncar lol and the car was
only good for a 120 mph, a C3 was 145 with a 454, the 308 was 155 in its
early form of 255 HP before they got strangled by the smog things, hence
why they used an early 1977 or 1979 car for the first 3 years.
so while its easy to point and laugh and say you so stupid in retrospect
here, what you have to remember is the circumstances of it and its not a
series 1, and we dont know what the liters were.
so for all we know it was a bondo dog on its way to the crusher before they
saved it here for use in the show, much like they did with the inspector
morse jaguar.
he ruined the 308! not then, but now! supposing you buy one today, and your
30 something with a moustache, you will be called magnum pi, back then it
was a cool program and gave many little boys dreams of a 308, but today?
hmmm lol i settled for a 308gt4 and i dont have a moustache!
The roof scene always bugged me, where'd it go!? Now I know! It's the
classic cilp that most people remember when they recall this show. But it
was a fix! I'm now envisioning a crew behind the car ready to catch the
moustachioed one's swift move!!! Go Tom, Go!! Floor it...
The first time my son ever drove a stick shift car was in my 78 carbureted
308 GTS. He drove with me in a parking lot and did very well with the
clutch and shifting. He drove motorcycles so he knew about clutches. What a
cool thing to be able to brag about.
My friend you are wrong. I have both a 308 quattrovalcole and a 328. You
can not slide the roof back unsless you do not step out of the car.
Expecially if you are of the Selleck dimension. No way, there was someone
pulling the roof away from the car.
In reality, it folds in 1/2, then goes behind the seats. He's just tossing
it for TV's sake...probably a crew member to catch it before he peels off
;) When you're Tom Magnum, you can get a roof caddie :)) Tom Selleck,
you're a class act.
from what someone told me, the roof actually slides back into a compartment
behind the driver, so what he was doing is exactly how it works, he wasnt
throwing the roof off, it simply slides back
Anyone notice that the plate on the car is different from the one that was
used later on. I think it says 56E-478. The one that was used later on said
Robin-1.
As a child of the 80's I can recall the three main cars I loved
lol......Magnum's Fararri,KITT from Knight Rider and the Coyote from
Hardcastle and McCormick!
