1979 Thomas Cup - Iie Sumirat vs Svend Pri
A classic 1979 Thomas Cup match: Iie Sumirat vs Svend Pri. Iie really made use of the (hot & sweaty) home advantage. Memorable scenes were when Iie made ...
Pri was 34 by this time and looked more like a power lifter than a
badminton player in physique. Compare his relative slimness when he beat
Hartono at the '75 All England.

Retro Computer - Apple IIe Platinum - Pickup & Play 9th August 2015
A wonderful example of early Retro Computing an Apple IIe Platinum joins the collection. Have wanted one of these for quite a while, but they do usually go for a ...
Actually surprised it arrived in one piece. That packing was minimal in my
experience. I've shipped electronics with much better packing and had them
destroyed. LOL Actually just picked one of these up from an auction
enhanced with CP/M OS. Was a graphics station.
+OG Picker Wouldn't mind getting a Z80 card for it at some stage so I can run CP/M on it. Still need to get a disc controller card for it, but hopefully have one from a friend soon.
The Apple IIE Plat is overall a nicely designed machine, but the downsides
is the Keyboard isn't as robust (not a problem with normal use, school use
with kids pounding on the keys)... The back part can actually break as its
not as strong (again, usually only with rough treatment) and some of the
ROM chips are soldered into the board, and not socketed as like the earlier
IIe system. Other then that, its a great machine... and I do like mine,
but I do like the IIc much better!
+LaserActiveGuy Makes sense, as they were trying to reduce the cost of the machine as much as possible. Two keys have obviously been replaced on this one, but the key travel and feel seems quite good.Hopefully will have a disc controller and a drive shortly so I can try out some of the software I have for it (mostly SSI titles).
+TootyUk Been something I have been after for years, but never thought I would get one :) There are lots of them listed, but you never know what condition they are in (as they are getting very old now). Hopefully have a disc controller card and drive sorted soon.
+1msx2go A very lucky find, never thought I would get hold of one of these. Then my electronics friend visited last night and I asked him whether he has any disc controller cards and drives. He turns around and says, yeah I have two complete systems full of cards, do you want them?He is apparently bringing them around later today or on the weekend, so I am going to be in Apple II heaven shortly :)
I played Moon Patrol on that in school, it was awesome. The whole class got
in trouble because we had a sub teacher that day and a kid snuck in his
Moon Patrol and we all loaded it and played it. But we were only supposed
to play Oregon Trail or Lemonade Stand.
Disk controller (5.25 ones) are cheap on ebay.... and quite common. It goes into Slot 6 if you weren't sure... I was actually thinking of putting in a flexi-cable in the slot, mounting the card sideways and shoe-horning in a half-height drive into the side of it... sort of a IIc/IIe hybrid !
Yeah no disc controller card, but if my friend doesn't have one I will find one somewhere. But good tip on using the serial card, that might be a good thing to try.
Pretty much everything Apple II is in the public domain... if you can get ahold of a Super Serial Card and ADT Pro Software, and a cable, you can actually transfer the disk images (once you get a drive)... at nearly the cost of electricity and floppy disks. Does your IIe Plat have a disk controller card? Every one came with one at the factory... so if its missing it, it was removed?!?
I have actually managed to track down a copy and it's on the way from the US, don't have any drives yet however, so a video will depend on when I get a drive and controller.
+electricadventures Moon Patrol is very interesting, one of the few games that has quite a bit of action and music playing at the same time. When a few sprites are moving about, things do slow down just a bit. Very tough game, but a decent port (considering the hardware).
Hehe, would be fun trying :) It's how people would have started back in the day, just with a machine and a tape drive to save to - oh to have the time, but I will definitely have fun playing with this one.
+electricadventures A drive? Forget that, that is not hardcore enough! Just see if you can find a printoff of the source code for the game and type it in!
+duhmez Oh haven't played Moon Patrol on the Apple II, be very interesting to see what that is like. Be very good once I get a drive, then I can hunt around for a few games for it. Mostly have SSI games from a local war gamer (who gave me the TRS-80 Model III I have).
