I don't think so. Farming was very different before the advent of synthetic fertilizers, cross-breeding, hybrid breeding, and improved mechanical technology.  Modern "organic" farming is a completely new approach, involving the massive use of slaughterhouse wastes and displacement and mining of river and mountain-based minerals; intensive tillage using huge amounts of fuel, destruction of living soil, and increase in greenhouse gasses; and the use of highly toxic "organic" insecticides and fungicides that farmers a century ago would not have had access to or been aware of.  One thing that hasn't changed much is the use of a migrant, itinerary workforce to do the harvesting and weeding, although Big Org farms use modern machinery for a lot of that, some of it still has to be done by hands. Since organics haven't really come up with effective weed control (organic insecticides pretty much suck too, that's why they have to use so much of it that it is applied at highly toxic levels) besides mulching and crop rotation and cover cropping, intense human labor is needed to weed the crops, adding to the cost of production (which is passed on to the consumer).Yet organic farmers remain steadfastly opposed to labor rights: medical benefits, retirement plans, vacation time, union organizing. Yet not a peep from the pro-organic community about these human rights violations, let alone the environmental violations and the outbreaks of disease and death occurring annually from organic farming practices.

Yes, in the good old days they did. Just the turn of the 19th century in the US roughly 40-60% of the population farmed. They had a fraction of the yields, basically a subsistence living and a life expectancy of 40-50 at the tops, with a few exceptions. They worked from dawn to dusk and lived a life of poverty for the most part.Is that the model you would like to go back to? Who gets to remain being the teacher, doctor, layer, artist, painter, and who gets the hoe given to them and led to the field to scratch out weeds all day? Remember, 40-60% of the population has to farm, not 1-2% like today.While we are at it should we abandon modern medicine too? Why use technology like MRIs, X-Rays, new chemicals, I mean medicines like antibiotics and the like, and instead let's rely on what can be found at the nearby apothecary?SMH.

Unfortunately we didn't really elect them. Who ever wins, they were supposed to win. And it'll keep going that way until people look at the signs. I definitely believe our food is a great place to start. Art of war tactic: control the food, control the population. We take back out farms, our animals our crops and we become healthy and slowly corporations will fall. Pharmacies, fast-food chains, major grocery stores. Corporations no longer have money to pay politicians, so they jump out of their pockets. Common sense kicks in, their sanity returns, their feelings, their true nature to love and feel return. We can start it, we may not see the end outcome in this life time, but I'm sure it'll happen one day soon.
