Personally I like black music...Stevie, Ray, Aretha etc...and I like
Classical and I also like Rock (I like other stuff but then I'd be going
off my point), so for me MK3 Purple was a combination of all that...MK IV
was great but had less of the Classical. My favourite album is
Stormbringer....but I also like MK II...even though I listen to it
less...which doesn't mean a thing, just that I'm more frequently in the
mood for something else.
Music is about moods and relates to what you feel at a given moment...maybe
you wouldn't listen to Johnny B. Good if your feeling melancholy or Take It
Easy might not be the best thing to pep you up in the gym, so even though I
like someone screaming well in my ear, I feel like it less frequently than
I do other stuff...and all that means is that I'm less frequently in a mood
for which Hard Rock would fit the bill but when I am, it does and I love
it. Now that shouldn't mean anything to anyone else but me. It doesn't make
me a junkie or a prick (alright more of a prick) and I don't expect anyone
else to feel the same way.
I don't see why Hughes has to be full of anything if he doesn't like MK II,
it's a matter of taste. He prefers funk, so what?
If he is strung out long term that's nothing to put him down with (unless
your a cunt and revel in someone's misfortune) and what the fuck does it
have to do with what his musical predispositions are?
People are such idiots and talk about music like they talk about
football...some kind of tribal identity shit...'if you don't share my taste
you're the enemy'. What a steaming pile, how sad and grow the fuck up!
Really man MK 2 with inan gillan that was a jam man all those songs from in
rock make you groove and rock out same to fireball and machine head was
just really heavy and groovy and soulful in a way ok its glenn's opinnion
but every deep purple ian gillan fan knows that MK2 was really good and the
one that made deep purple a band
Best 3 albums ,burn, storm bringer and my absolute favourite-Come taste the
band. I often wonder what the next album would have been.sadly it remains a
one off. Judging by the crappy rock -pop that Glen played after that I can
see how and why he could not relate to rock.well done for contributing to a
greAt rock -function album.
love it - as Glenn Hughes is talking about how unsexy and ungroovy MK II
Deep Purple is - around 2:18 - the backing track is a sexy groovy version
of Strange Kind of Woman - which IMHO is a very sexy groovy song..oh and MK
II ;)
Ok he said he wasnt a big fan not he didnt like.and i see what hes talking
about too about not being that catchy.dont get me wrong mark II is still my
favorite era.
Yep, Come Taste The Band, one of my favourite albums ever. Not a single
weak track. Bolin does a stirling job, really refreshing to hear a new
guitarist.
same as me .. just love Come taste the band. every track is great ....

To keep youtube from pulling it, but they have since went to audio matching
& dropped the video matching method...That's why some of my videos have
been pulled..I have found a lot of them reposted back on youtube by people
that live in european countries...They don't seem to have the same issues
(threats) from youtube that i get..I'm glad that they are just out there &
i am not bitter at them at all, but when you work your @ss off editing
converting reposting..Any anger i feel is toward youtube
I didn't mean any disrespect, Purple is in the top 3 hard rock bands of the
late 60's & 70's, but if you look at the albums vs members chart ( and
again no disrespect because all of these guys are more talented than i
could ever wish to be in my wildest dreams ) Bobby Woodman (DP'S first
percussionist) Rod Evans (first vocalist) Nick Simper (first bassist) Ian
Gilan (2nd vocalist) Roger Glover (2nd bassist) Glenn Hughes (3rd bassist &
3rd vocalist) David Coverdale (4th vocalist)..A lot of
Hughes was just a good village boy from Cannock but Blackmore trained him
"My fair lady" style, to become a rock star, and Hughes fell into the drug
trap and turned very violent and egotist. The same did Blackmore with an
amateur singer ,Coverdale, after quarreling with Paul Rodgers in just few
days, Blackmore resentful took the first amateur he found and was
Coverdale, himself an imitator of Paul Rodgers, Blackmore trained him
,Coverdale was a fast student! Played Pygmalion with them .
No. That he keeps the flame of those Deep Purple albums alive is not
forcefully because he seeks his "15 minutes of fame" as you call them. I'm
no Glenn Hughes solo fan, but I sure as hell know that EVERYBODY in rock
knows and respects Glenn Hughes. The passion and determination for music
drives him, and if a musician was trying to relive past times to hard, he
would've given up last decade or in the 90's. He now has Black Country
Communion.
I see Glenn a little differently. He had MAJOR issues at the time and I
find it very brave that he is so honest about the things he did and how
flawed he was. I'm hanging on every word he says. Yes he's telling his
story but it seems more like a catharsis than any conceit. Just the
impression I'm getting. I knew little about him prior to today other than
he was on Burn and had a great voice.
I think Glenn looks back on his glory days & tries desperately to relive
his 15 minutes of fame...As for Jon Lord, i think he was (i typed is & had
to correct it....it's still hard to believe he's gone) probably the most
humble & selfless person in rock n roll..maybe ever
Even though i may get death threats Ritchie blackmore (1st lead guitarist)
Tommy Bolin( 2nd lead guitarist)...So many people get pissed off if you
even mention those two names with the same breath...But Tommy deserves his
place in there just like everyone else.aka R.B
Guys would have killed for an open position in that band...So when i say 15
minutes, it's more of a nod to what they created in what little time they
had in Purple rather than a knock to it...: - )

You are very welcome my friend :- ) Yeah the spotlight was on him for most
of this one..I kept waiting for David Coverdale to do anything ( show up
make a speech do an interview ) but it was a no go...First time Glenn ever
stole the spotlight from David...lol...btw i think the name of this
documentary is Deep Purple —— Phoenix Rising Getting Tighter (2011)...But
you didn't hear it from me ;- )
Glenn said there was "no drugs" in Australia in the mid-70s? Bollocks!
Maybe cocaine wasn't to be found everywhere, but the country has LONG had a
history with heroin, and of course marijuana can be found anywhere because
it can be GROWN anywhere, at least indoors. If they REALLY wanted drugs,
they would have found them, because I suppose they didn't want to chance
bringing any with them.
Thanks for the video upload. I know you had no control over the content,
but it certainly is top-heavy with Glenn..

I'm convinced that Tommy Bolin's death was NOT an accident,Tommy should
still be with us.But the truth will come out, there should be an
investigation, and set the record straight.I'm not mentioning names, but some
people that worked with Tommy at the time when Tommy's career was really
taking off from the James Gang to Purple might have been getting jealous
and were threatened by tommy's succsess when i say people that worked with
Tommy i don't mean the band.Read the book by Greg Prato about Tommy
I was a very good friend of Tommy's from '69 til he died and I and a lot of
other people agree with you. A couple of weeks before his death he told me
how he was going to quit his current management. Then all the weird things
surrounding the death...I wish someone would investigate.
Tommy was a fantastic guitarist and had a nice personality. Deep Purple had
a successful tour of America in 1976 and I am surprised this is never
highlighted. More MK 4 Deep Purple material of live recordings should be
released to show what a great musician Tommy actually was.
First notice that Bolin could have been slain. Could you imagine Hendrix
murdeded by someone ?As a good friend of Bolin, you should know how deep
was him involved in heroin.
