Craft Beer 101: Entrepreneurship and Beer - Learn Liberty
There are more than 2000 breweries in the United States, and craft beer has been continually increasing in popularity. Is the craft beer scene today the best it's ...
Saying Ulysses Grant had more of a selection is false. There is NO WAY with
today distribution that you would have this many choices at a single
location. It's an insult to how far we have come. Do we need more craft
beer though? YES!
+Marc ThomasI think their focus here is on beer from the US and Canada in particular. I also think that it's a bit obtuse to single out NYC (I could just as easily single out Salt Lake City and have the same effect). I see your point, in that particular case, but I think their point still stands for the majority of states.
That makes sense but I don't know that he still would have had a better selection. let's be honest there wasn't a store he could go to and get refrigerated beer from at least 5 different countries from ales, which is mostly what they had, to pilsner and lagers. Of course the beer he did get would have most likely been local but other than that on selection there is no way he had us beat. Maybe its just my area near Asheville, NC there are so many small independent brewers in the 2 years I have been here I have yet to try them all and I add new ones at least every few months. Seriously though we have awesome beer in NC, originally I'm from NY just so we know I'm not TOO bias haha,
+Marc Thomas DC would have had the majority of the market available to Grant right there where he was at as most brewers in general were in New England.
Bullshit. US Grant did not have more options in beer, unless he wanted to
do a shitload of travelling. There were so many brewers because beer was a
local thing, it could not be shipped long distances to out of area markets.
+apburner1 I just cracked open a Schneider Aventinus. Apparently Schneider got their start 5 years before Ulysses S. Grant died. I have thought of getting into home brewing but wonder whether I could match this masterpiece.
+apburner1 Thought the same thing myself. Also today there is much more likelihood that you'll hear about a beer brewed in a distant place (via the Internet or via someone who has traveled from that place).
Nothing like the government to make sure that corporations have the most
power in the game. Now if we could just get the States and the Feds out of
the way of distilleries and then would see some great things.
+GeoFry3 the point is, the very few things that govt is meant to do, they want to get out of - and vice versa. c'mon, this is a liberty channel - that shouldn't need an explanation.
If only we could get the Feds out of everything lol
