Towson University TIGER Marching Band - "Tank!" (Cowboy Bebop OP)
Towson University's TIGER Marching Band performing Yoko Kanno's "Tank!" at Johnny Unitas Stadium during the Homecoming halftime show on Oct. 17, 2009 ...
It was wet and cold. Also, I heard the announcement before the first song
and thought they weren't going to play it (it first showed up in their set
at the previous home game). So when the "Tank!" announcement came around, I
was on my way back up the steps. I turned around, turned on my Flip cam,
and slowly made my way back down the steps. In retrospect, I could have
gone up to the top of the student section and done it from there. Alas, I
don't have press box access.
Awesome performance of the piece, but I don't mean to sound critical or
spiteful, but I don't know if it was the intention of the flags to be off
of one another here and there in regards to timing. If it wasn't then,
that's kind of the only distracting thing on here *shrug* (Former Color
Guard from High School)
its never a good idea to play in the rain... for woodwins it can ruin your
pads. but besides that I thought the arrangement was really good, though
the band didn't do the song justice. the visual aspect of the show, and the
color guard was kind of boring though .
Towson Rocks! I think they were the only University with a band that was
approved to play at the Macys Parade. Go Tigers! I found this cool semester
abroad with Towson to New Zealand..check it out.. type in the seach:: New
Zealand Abroad with Dr. Gilda Martinez
Great choice! I like how doing this as a marching band piece exposes Bebop
(and Kanno) to people who might not otherwise know about the show. And as
an added bonus, I bet it was fun to experiment with playing.
Ah, then I can understand about the iffy work with the flags. ^^;
Unfortunately, I don't know where this was at and I'm out in Southern
CA...and limited on a budget to work with to do things w/o a job.
Custom Arrangement, and a little rain wont hurt the instruments as long as
they are taken care of. (no garuntee that it was still raining at the time
of performance) ~Marching member in the show
…well, you just wasted all of your time on that one. That has NOTHING to do
with what I just said. Rain can RUIN the instruments, including the drums.
It's just NOT a good combination.
It was iffy weather and only the second time it was in their halftime show.
I saw it the next time and it was much better. If you're in the area, come
to the game on Saturday!
That's just as cool as the Notre Dame marching band doing the Mario theme a
couple years back. Major props to the band director for picking a cool jazz
song from Japan.
.....some of the rhythms wasn't right..... especially at 1:10 if you listen
to this then the original you'll notice it......other than that it was
EPICALLY AWESOME!!!
Did you guys arrange the music yourselves or did you buy an arrangement (if
the latter, which version did you purchase/where did you purchase it)? Also
great job!
