Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance (2014) (Proof of Concept.)
The Best of Star Wars X-Wing Alliance
An extraordinary overview showing the greatest things about the game on a cinematographic style, as the Rebels complete their journey to defeat the Empire.
I can't believe I hadn't seen this until now. This was a big nostalgia
trip for me as XWA is one of my favorite Star Wars games of all time.
Great work!
+Seraphil1 Thanks. It also brings me nostalgia to watch it. That is why I made this video.Don't miss the "part 2" video. Is more about a custom mission I made, but is about same game and same cinematographic style.
It's a shame that nobody remembers this game like they remember Tie
Fighter. Don't get me wrong, Tie Fighter was amazing but this game was just
as improved over Tie Fighter as Tie Fighter was to X-Wing.
XWA is the best of the Holland SW sims both technically and gameplaywise. However, TIE Fighter has more character. The plot is interesting, playing as Empire is an unique approach, it takes you places that were largely new and unfamiliar especially back then, it also has that unique music that is bit more detached from the movie themes than X-Wing's midi music was. Almost all the later games of the era then just recycled John Williams music endlessly. That got old fast. I seem to recall TIE Fighter being the easiest of the 4 games too. That may also be a factor for popularity.X-Wing Alliance is the play I'd rather play today (I'm actually doing that), but it doesn't beat TIE Fighter when it comes reminiscing.
Maybe it's because in TIE Fighter you get to play as the Empire and fly TIE Fighters, and games in that time almost always focused on the Rebellion. It was the novelty and still is because games still almost always focus on the good guys.
+interlinkknight True enough, it just seems that nobody ever talks about Alliance whenever they mention Tie Fighter. Maybe it was the timeframe. The Flight Sim genre was losing popularity and Episode 1 was (for better or worse) on everyone's minds and we started getting a bunch a crap Prequel era games. Though Starfighter and Battle for Naboo weren't bad.
+MrNerdBachMike I agree. But trust me, people remember still alliance. I use to play on gameranger and almost noone play xwing or tie fighter. There was only active players in "xwing vs tie fighter" or alliance. Alliance still is the best overall, specially with upgrades models.
X-Wing vs TIE Fighter Multiplayer: Defending the Liberty
so awesome that people are still playing this multiplayer thanks to GOG.
i've got their X-Wing and Tie-Fighter releases (AMAZING nostalgia trip) but
I need a new stick so I can get on this one!!! I never properly played XVT
before, just the "flight school" edition from the X-Wing Collector's Series
box.. i like the tactical roleplay element you guys added too, nice and
immersive.
+Jonathan Lundkvist I know you use FRAPS but I thought I'd share this information, from Veloxi who also plays XvT on gameranger and posted on the gog forums:"Hey, it took me a while to figure out too. I'm using Open Broadcaster Software, and I have it set to monitor capture with a custom resolution of 640x480. That's the ONLY way I've been able to properly capture it. "I don't want to have to pay for FRAPS so this pleased me since OBS is free.
+Jonathan Lundkvist Have you tried using raptr? I cannot for the life of me get it to work. Do you not use gameranger anymore? I've added people from the gog forums and it looks like many have not been on there in weeks.
+Jonathan Lundkvist Thanks. I have Open Broadcaster Software because it's free, haven't tried that yet. I think I just added you on gameranger, if you are JonathanRL:)
+Jonathan Lundkvist Oh hey, fast response:) NOW I remember, that first song is from RS and I just found it again on here, thanks for that nostalgia burst.Your vid made me glad I bothered to DL Teamspeak again for XvT MP, what a great way to increase immersion. I plan to upload videos as well, once I figure out how.I've tried to record with raptr and it doesn't seem to be working. What did you use?
+Dwarven Thane Youtube does not allow the Win95 soundtrack so I shut it off and replaced with tracks from Rogue Squadron, Force Commander and TIE Figther
Quick question, do you know if it'll work in Windows Vista? I know games on GOG tend to have compatibility issues with that OS
Let's Play Star Wars X-Wing Alliance - Mission #4 - Sticking it to the Viraxos: Covert Delivery
It seems the Viraxo forgot some of their belongings while visit us at our Storage Area, it only makes sense that we go the extra mile and return it to them.
@entrepid83 I dont know if something is wrong wih my game or not but when
the star destroyer popped up i instantly lost the mission and i was like
WTF how did i lose so can you help me understand why?
lol; YOU HAVE DESTROYED A FRIENDLY CRAFT!!!! Yeah, no kidding. That's
because I'm suppose to you dumbass. I bet Ace really did say that in real
life (real life in the Star Wars universe).
@SuperDarthVader1 The only ideas I have is if you destroyed the Venix
before Emon picked Aeron up, or if you were identified by one of the
Imperial craft.
How to play Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance in Multiplayer
I show how you can easily find players to play online using GameRanger. Also works for X-Wing vs TIE Fighter and BOP. You just need to install GameRanger ...
@Rapanui5 I'm glad. I also spend many years wanting to play that game
online, but is was just a month ago that I found this great way to play
online. It should be easier to find how to play X-Wing Alliance online.
That's why I make this video. And thanks for the comment. Is good to know
that it was useful to somebody. Feel free to send me a message so we can
play X-Wing Alliance.
When playing Alliance on multiplayer using upgrade models, both players
need to have the same upgrade pack with the same settings when they install
it. If any setting is different, game will not work properly when trying to
play together. Also upgrade models in many computers make the game lag.
That is why i prefer playing original models, solo and online.
connection problems are cause by many things. The most common problems are
cause by: firewall, router and different versions. Both have to have same
version with no mods.
gameranger still wont let me connect to star wars x wing alliance online it
keeps aborting me and sending me back to desktop anyones help is really
appreciated
4:05 THIS IS FREAKING EPIC!
How the heck did you manage to get some of the ships to do exactly what you
want in order to create some very nice footage..?
In the mission editor I can set what each ship will do, and when they will do it. For the x-wing, I just play the game. Like 4:05, I wait the ship to explode and I go at full speed toward it and avoid the debris. All this while recording the replay. Later I can play the replay and select where I want the camera, and move the camera with the joystick.
That's awesome man. I love your videos. Did you ever play balance of power.
They had a really cool level where the Liberty was being pursued by a
imperial battle group and the rebels were waiting to ambush them when they
came out of hyperspace. You should make video like that! But anyway great
job again!
+KABZProductions Yes, I play all missions on balance of power extension of XvT. Don't remember that mission in particular because I play it long ago. Would be cool make more videos, but takes too much time and effort. This was my last video of this kind. But thank you for your words of support. Cheers.
When you think about it though, the Death Stars' weaknesses weren't that
easily exploitable. The first one's only weakness could only be reached by
a snubfighter that managed to survive flying straight inside a trench
covered by laser batteries while most likely pursued by TIEs. If the
fighter made it far enough, it needed to fire proton torpedoes at an
indirect target only two meters wide, small enough that even
computer-assisted targeting could miss.
Haha you don't know what an apologist is. I just pointed out something
stupid and you keep rationalizing it. That is what an apologist does. I am
just stating since they stated that it was the bulk of the rebel fleet and
there is a limit to how many ship placed. they should have made the rebel
and imperial fleet equal size because it looks kinda pathetic. Or they
should have left that statement of the rebel fleet size out
The second corrected this flaw and was only destroyed because 1)
snubfighters were able to fly into the incomplete superstructure and
destroy the main reactor and 2) the energy shield generated on the planet
below that would have prevented this until the Death Star was complete was
destroyed. Even the energy shield was protected by a legion of Imperial
troops, and was only destroyed because of Ewok intervention.
Someone doesn't know their star wars lore. The Executor did have a
secondary command bridge, however due to the suddenness of the bridges
destruction, the chain reaction caused by an A-Wing colliding with the
command bridge and its proximity to the Death star, control couldn't be
re-established before the Executor collided with the Death star due to the
Death Stars gravity well.
So, those 12 capital ships and 16 starfighers where the bulk of the rebel
alliance fleet? at 0:39 If they wanted to show a big fleet. they should
have toned the imperial fleet or made the rebels bigger because now it
looks really unbelievable that the rebel fleet could have done anything
against the imperials. you also need to look up what an apologist is.
The thing that's always pissed me off about the Executor's demise is that
nobody thought to give it any secondary command modules just in case the
primary bridge were out of commission. Then again, these are the same
geniuses who consistently engineer the Death Stars with easily-exploitable
Achilles' heels.
*Looks at massive fleet of Star Destroyers.* Oooo, nice. Impressive for an
older game like this. That is a fair number of ships. Not enough Alliance
ships though. Hey, wait a minute! In the movie the Falcon was inside the
Death Star when the Executor was destroyed!
Are you some weird star wars apologist or something? Or do you believe that
the alliance fleet in the movies and in this mission was really the full
fleet of the rebel alliance, like it was mentioned in the game.
If Ace Azzameen is flying the Millennium Falcon during the attack on the
second Death Star then where is Lando Calrissian? Or does this mean Ace is
actually the little guy with gills?! He must be adopted.
1.) A friendly Y-Wing killed me, so that didn't help, but they are slow,
very sluggish, and can't actually dish out that much damage. They don't
really succeed in any combat role. 2.) Darthbandon nailed it. 3.) The
A-Wing is an interceptor which you will see shortly and the B-Wing is for
heavy assault missions and has more firepower, speed, maneuverability, and
durability than a Y-Wing. B-Wings aren't so bad.
I remember playing this game at the tender age of 8 years old. "OH THE BLUE
LASER LOOKS COOL WHEN I SHOOT IT WITH THE RED ONES!" "IMPERIALS??! THOSE
ARE DA BAD GUIZ KILL DEM ALL!" GetDaved "If you fire while moving your
shots do more damage" "I better wait to recharge my shields" Oh GetDaved,
you make me realize just how sub-optimal my childhood was.
So, I have a few questions: 1: Why exactly do you hate Y-wings? (What was
displayed in the video seems to be more an AI issue than a Ship one...) and
2: How many different firing patterns does the X-wing have? (and what are
they?) 3: What are the A and B wings? I don't remember seeing much of them.
=\
Death Count: 2 I like the Alliance Fleet at the start and end of the
mission, really gives it that authentic feel. Got a good laugh at the
name/gem talk at the end.
Ahhh, that's happened to me, ally plowing into my ship. Though typically
it's right before I win a mission, and I'm in something more fragile like a
Tie-Fighter.
Thank you for cranking up your volume! Much easier to hear.

Das wär' schon was, würde ich mich freuen : ) For the empire! :D :D :D
+Kelloggx X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter mit dem Kampagnen-Ad-on "Balance of Power"?
